Fall 2010 XBL Update - Avatar Marketplace Issues Never Resolved?

Hello,

I'm opening this thread in the hopes that someone from Microsoft may still be interested in resolving the avatar marketplace problems caused by the Fall 20102 update on the Xbox Live Dashboard. Since I took the update in November 2010, I have not had access to two pieces of avatar gear that I purchased using Microsoft Points. Those two items are:

The LE Ezio Outfit (Full-Body, Female): 400 MSP

The Frankenstein Hat (Halloween Headgear, Female): 80 MSP -- NOW OFFERED AS MALE-ONLY

Shortly after the update, I either commented upon or opened a forum post regarding the disappearance of these items from my avatar wardrobe. However, I received no response to my inquiries, and those posts now appear to have been wiped from the forum history. I would like to know the status of this issue, and whether a solution is still in the works. As it stands now, I feel as if I wasted those 480 MSP, and I've been very wary in these last months of purchasing gear on the Avatar Marketplace for fear that another update will cause similar problems. Or, rather, I fear that we will once again be left in the dust, and that those in charge will turn a blind, indifferent eye to the issue until people simply stop asking.

I realize that, in the scheme of things, this is a very small problem compared to the upcoming XBL update, and that missing avatar gear pales in comparison to having your console bricked. I understand priorities. However, that doesn't erase the fact that I -- like many -- spent money on content that I no longer have access to. I don't think an answer is too much to ask for, even if that answer is, "We hope you kissed your gear good-bye, because it's not coming back." Then, I can turn all my confusion into rage, and that gives me a jumping-off point for my next letter. -:P

That's it. If anyone else is still having this problem, please add your voice. If there was a solution, and I missed it, I apologize for my righteousness -- straight and up-front. In any case, thanks for your time! I hope to hear back from someone. -:)

Have you tried to delete and redownload this content from your purchase history? (Delete content, clear system cache, restart console, redownload)

Yeah, I have done so a couple of times now. If it would have worked, it may have been able to fix the LE Ezio outfit. However, the Frankenstein hat is clearly listed as male-only in the Marketplace now. I downloaded it as a female the year it came out; it disappeared from the Marketplace after the update, then reappeared without the female gender entry about a month later. Because of that, the Frankenstein hat throws an error code when I attempt to re-download it from my purchase history since it literally doesn't exist for my avatar.

Thanks for replying, though! -:)

I just noticed that my post has been moved from "Update Issues" to "Managing my Xbox LIVE account". This is ... rather insulting, actually. This issue has nothing to do with my inability to manage my account. I'm seeking answers regarding a problem -- directly related to an Xbox Live UPDATE -- that was never presented a solution. For what reason has my thread been moved? This is starting to get ridiculous.

To address the post being moved, we move posts to Forums that we believe is the place most users with the same issue will look for it. I have also moved your post again, this time to the Download and Purchase forum, as this has to do with your downloaded content. This in no way is a reflection on your or the merit of your post.

What is the error you received when you tried redownloading your Frankenstein helmet?

Let’s try to manually update your Avatar Editor. Follow these steps to clear out the current files so we can have it update:

  1. Open the System Settings
  2. Select Memory
  3. Select your storage device
  4. Select Games
  5. Select Avatar Editor
  6. Delete Avatar Asset Refresh Cache file(s)
  7. Back out to the Storage Devices list, highlight the HDD and press (Y)
  8. Select Clear System Cache
  9. After that finishes, restart your console
  10. When it comes back up, try to redownload your avatar gear
  11. Open the Avatar Editor

Does this seem to help your issue at all?

I have the exact same problem as you with some adidas avatar items. They simply removed it from the marketplace. What a waste of gamepoints! Its like selling someone a sweater and then just taking it back without saying anything..Fail.

I have also been unsuccessful at getting my LE Ezio Outfit (Female) to appear in the Avatar Editor on X-Box Live.  I've tried the suggestion above many times since the Fall XBL Update last year, but it doesn't work.  The only way to get your avatar to wear it is if you use the Avatar Editor on live.xbox.com.  What's really annoying is that your avatar reverts back to normal clothing on your console if you're not signed in to XBL, so I have no choice but to be connected to the internet if I want to see my avatar wearing the content I purchased.  I've complained about this issue for a long time and still nothing has been done about it.  If they're not going to fix it, they could at least refund everyone 400 MSP.

Oh! Whoa. I didn't realize that my post had been responded to. I thought it would show up on my main forum page, or it would notify me in some way.  Sorry about the lack of response on my part! I didn't know. I'm still interested in help, if you're willing. -:)

I have cleared the cache, and it does not resolve the issue.

As for the Frankenstein Hat, it displays the following code when I attempt to select it under my Download History (on the console):

"There's a problem with the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Please try again later. Status code: 800700E8"

When I try to find it under the Avatar Marketplace -- via Xbox.com, where I can view both gender options -- I can find the hat, but it is listed as a male-only avatar piece.

I apologize for getting snarly when my post was moved before. I remember being in a nasty mood that night, and I overreacted. But, I do rather agree with some of my fellow XBL gamers: would a refund really be out of the question?

I'm sorry, but I absolutely derped. I meant to say that I followed your directions with the manual reset -- not just resetting the cache. But it didn't resolve it. The LE Ezio outfit still won't appear, and the Frankenstein Hat is throwing the same error message. -:) Sorry.

Hey there! Thank you for getting back to me. If none of these steps have helped, I would suggest calling phone support (support.xbox.com/contact-us) to see if they can sort it out for you. I'm sorry I wasn't able to help!
