Hello trustno1fox,
It sounds like the update failed because you can't connect to the internet and or Xbox Live.
Hope this helps!

If you can’t connect to LIVE, or if you’re getting disconnected while playing, then you’ve come to the right place. Below are the first basic steps you’ll need to take to get on LIVE.
Is there something wrong with LIVE?
It's possible. You should check out the Status of LIVE to see if there are any known issues that affect you
or are related to your issue.
Run a network connection test
The first thing you’ll want to do is run a LIVE Connection test. First, access the dashboard – the main menu on the console. You can find your way back here from anywhere, by pressing the Guide button (middle button on your controller) and selecting “ Xbox
Home.”
Once in the dashboard, navigate to the ‘Settings’ hub, select the ‘System’ tile, and then ‘Network Settings.’ Select the appropriate network (wired or wireless), and then select ‘Test
Xbox LIVE Connection.’
Record the results
Be sure to read everything that comes up after the test. Even if the test completes without an error, pressing “Y” to access ‘more information’ may yield a suggestion for improving your connection.
Check the stickies
Check the other forum stickies for a post about the or and
error message you received when running the Connection Test. These stickies have the top resolutions for their issue.
Insufficient MTU Settings
Can't Resolve DNS Server
NAT Issues
Make a post
If you don’t see a sticky for your exact issue, feel free to make a new post. When posting, you can save yourself some time and answer these question up front. If you don’t know to the answer to a specific question, that’s okay, but please try and answer
as many as you can. By providing this info, you’ll give the community the tools they need to help resolve your issue.
