XBOX 360 UNIVERSAL REMOTE (CAME WITH HDDVD DRIVE)

Hey I wanted to know why my remote can control my HP computer without pointing it at the infrared receiver on my PC. It doesn't matter what way I point the remote the controller wirelessly controls my PC. If the remote has wireless built into it why do we even have the infrared on the front of the remote? The PS3 Remote uses Bluetooth to control the PS3. All the xbox 360 controllers are wireless. I hate infrared since you can't have anything in the way of the remote control and the receiver on the system itself.

If the remote is wireless why can't Microsoft just release an update to make use of it

The remote can't be only Infrared else it wouldn't be controlling my laptop when I am not point the remote at it. I am in front of my laptop pointing it at my xbox but my HP PC is also being controlled at the same time.

 

I can point my remote to the ceiling and still make the media centre on my PC pop up and then move around using the arrow keys on my 360 remote

nope definately only infrared... put your hand over the end of the remote and try to use it.

It's 100% Infrared only. The signal is bouncing.

Put a pillowcase or tshirt over it.  If the remote uses a 2.4 GHz protocol, it will still work even while covered by cloth.  If it's infrared, it will not work.

I just did what you said I put my hand over the front pressed the Media Centre button and my computer went into Media centre mode
