Xbox 360-S 250gb Hard Drive Issue

I looked a little bit to see if this has already been addressed, but when I bought my new 360-S last October, I brought it home, transferred the data from my 120gb hard drive to the new hard drive. Everything transferred fine, but then my new hard drive started having some issues. It would take 2-10 minutes just for the dashboard to pop up when I booted up the console. It would lock up brand new games in the middle of loading (i.e Black Ops, at the time). Eventually, I purchased a 16gb flash drive. I booted up the console, waited 10 minutes for it to show dashboard, then I copied my gamertag and what little data I needed to play from the hard drive to the flash drive. I have been playing off of the flash drive ever since. If I insert my hard drive now, it will take the 2-10 minutes to load, then it takes another 10 minutes for it to show up after I select "Memory."

I was just curious if there was any way to salvage the data on the drive. Is there anything I can do? Am I out of my 6+ years of game saves? The Xbox plays perfectly without the drive in there, but I would like to be able to install games again and I'd like to have all of my game saves available to me when I need them.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You would need to transfer using a USB Flash Drive if you're able to get to the data on the hard drive, as there's not a transfer cable currently for the Xbox 360 S hard drive.

I'm having a similar issue with my roommate's XBox360s with a 4 gb internal hard drive.

My roommate purchased a new 250 gb hard drive and installed it just as the directions stated, but have been unable to get it to properly communicate with the xbox. I attempted to install Forza Motorsport 3 on it, but after it creates the save file, it says the file I am attempting to load is no longer available. Then I'm locked up and can't do anything.

I get E 68 and 69 errors, and the box is pretty much useless until I remove the hard drive...

Is anything being done about this? I'm typically a Sony guy and figured that I would give a 360 a shot since my roommate has one, but I'm not going to waste my own money getting into this if Microsoft can't build a decent product...
I was just curious if there was any way to salvage the data on the drive.
Other than waiting for the 360 S to boot with the drive installed, then copying to a flash drive, no.
Is there anything I can do?
When purchased as a console kit, the 250GB HDD is covered by the same one year warranty as the console. You can RMA just the drive via XBOX phone support.
I'm having a similar issue with my roommate's XBox360s with a 4 gb internal hard drive.
The 360 S 4GB does not have a HDD. It's a 4GB internal flash memory unit.
My roommate purchased a new 250 gb hard drive and installed it just as the directions stated, but have been unable to get it to properly communicate with the xbox.
It's defective. Return it to your retailer for a refund or exchange it for a replacement.
I'm not going to waste my own money getting into this if Microsoft can't build a decent product...
Microsoft does not build the HDD, they source them from various drive manufacturers. HDDs are mechanical devices. They fail. Accessory HDDs are covered by a 90 day warranty in the USA. HDDs that come with the console are covered by the console warranty and any extended warranty put on the console via Microsoft. If you're considering purchasing a 360, buy the 250GB model so the HDD is covered by the console warranty.

Thanks for your input. I tried another HDD after talking with XBox Support and it failed to solve the problem. It seems to me that my roommate's Xbox is the problem. I'll let him know what the deal is, and if he feels like it, he can talk to XBox support. If it's still covered by the warranty, I hope replacement is an option...
