Wireless adapter ceases to function

As of yesterday, my non-N wireless adapter ceased to allow me to connect to XBL. Upon turning my console around, I found out that it's now showing a red circle. After checking the FAQs on this issue and plugging my adapter into all the usb ports, I still see that it does not work. Is this mostly a usb port issue therefore a console issue or an adapter issue?

The easiest way to tell would be to try the adapter on a friend's console, to see if it works there. Alternatively, you could try a different USB device in that port, to see if it functions without issue.
