Hey there Snipe!
Do you have built in Wi-Fi (Xbox 360 S) or the external wireless network adapter?
As a first step, take a look at "Can't connect to Xbox LIVE Wizard" http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live/connecting/cant-connect-to-xbox-live-wizard And see if it can be of any help for you.
Post back and let us know how it goes.

Please make sure you are in range of your wireless router. Also if you have a password enabled on your wireless try disabling it and then trying the connection again. Do you have any other devices in your home on Wireless? Please let us know some more details if possible.

ok you guys, i dont have a built in wifi (xbox 360 S) or anything like that. I just have the xbox 360 slim 250gb hard drive and no other equipment. Im on the other side of the wall from my router/modem. I put the WEP(64key) password for my network in correctly. I dont know what uPnP thing is. When im testing my wifi connection, it wont go passed the xbox 360 picture at the bootom of the screen when your testing ur connection. it just shows a big red X over the xbox 360 picture at the bottom of the screen. I dont know what im doing wrong or anything like that.

The uPnP is a automatic port opener. The thing is the xbox calling these ports during connecting to the servers of Xbox LIVE. When that become blocked, the xbox cant connect properly and the connection can be broken eventually.
Is there someone you know
who can handle some network stuff? If not, try to figure out some info like: What kind of Modem do you have? Modem/Router and Model number. And the provider what you are using.

A 169 IP address is a "APAIPA" address. This means that your xbox see there is a network connection but the DHCP request is failing. Verify that DHCP is turned on in the router. Verify that your WEP key is correct. Reboot your router. Clear all network settings in the xbox. If still failing, for a temp basis turn off WEP and see if you get connection.
