sorry idk if this was covered before but heres my problem my xbox keeps freezing id clear catche and it will be fine for awhile but today i get the E71 error message and then bam i get the 3 blinking red lights. but the funny thing is i take off the harddrive and works just fine no e71 massage no red ring what do i do?

Use the Flashing Lights Solution. Choose one flashing light as the problem and follow the steps in the solution: support.xbox.com/.../flashing-lights-wizard.aspx
Try the following steps:
Disconnect and reconnect all accessories.
Remove the hard drive.
Remove any USB flash drives.
If the above steps do not solve the issue, request a repair

Wait a minute.... If you take off the HDD there is no error? Then in that case your HDD is Defective and will not work in your xbox anymore

My point was if his xbox worked without the Hdd. he could try a friends and if that worked then to get a new HDD
