How to get files from my old "Documents" folder on an old hard drive?

Hi. I have a Windows XP hard drive that doesn't boot up so I tried to do the Repair from the Windows XP CD but it doesn't work. There are some document files I need in that old hard drive so I bought a new hard drive and do a NEW Install Windows XP on it. I connect my old hard drive as a slave drive. When I click to that old hard drive and go to D:\Documents and Settings\ and try to go into my old "Eric" Documents folder, it says "Access Denied!" How can I see my old Document files from the old hard drive? I tried using the Hiren Boot CD and erased the password for "Eric" account but I still can't access "Eric" Documents. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
You just need to take ownership of the files on the old hard drive.
