If you have Kaspersky installed and can not get Windows 8 Tiles (Metro UI) to work, here is the answer...

I, like many people, have been struggling to get the new Windows 8 Metro UI (Tiles/Apps) to work. Most people who have had this problem have tracked it down to a handful of problems. I would like to share with you how I fixed the problem I was having.

THE PROBLEM:

Whenever I tried to open any Apps from the Windows 8 Metro UI Display, the app would open for a short time, show the logo of the App I was opening and then go back to the main screen.

THE ISSUE:

After a lot of research and a lot of reading, I found out that the problem was with my Anti-Virus program. I was running Kaspersky Pure 2.0. The firewall that comes built in with Kaspersky was blocking the Apps from launching.

THE SOLUTION:

Step 1) Go to the following website:   http://www.kaspersky.com/pure-latest-versions. Once on this website, download the latest version of the product.

Step 2) Once the download has finished, make sure that you disconnect from the internet.

Step 3) Completely uninstall the current version of Kaspersky Pure that you have installed on your computer, via the Programs and Features option in the control panel. making sure to delete all activation information stored on your PC.

Step 4) Restart your PC.

Step 5) Install the new version of Kaspersky that you just downloaded.

Step 6) Restart PC.

Step 7) Once your PC has restarted, open Kaspersky. Go to Settings>Protection and make sure that on the list of features on the left hand side that Kaspersky Firewall is NOT there. If it is not there, then the Windows 8 built in Firewall has been activated and is now the current Firewall running. The Windows Firewall WILL allow the Windows 8 Metro UI App to run and launch correctly. Kaspersky will still handle most of the PC's protection, and your PC will be perfectly safe.

If you have any issues, please reply, and I will be happy to try and help as I know what a frustrating issue this can be.

@Andrew, the method you stated would work obviously. However, it's not an appropriate option. What you said is to install Kaspersky Pure 2.0, the current latest build of Pure which is unfortunately incompatible with Windows 8 and its features.

I'm a Kaspersky Internet Security user and I have the 2013 version with the same issue. The metro apps wont work at all if the protection components are on. The problem basically is that Kaspersky is simply tinkering with the App functions and Kaspersky's built in firewall and App control is blocking most of the apps from accessing features. This is obviously the problem for KIS13 and according my knowledge, they haven't fixed this yet.

I've wandered around the forums and all the users are stating the same problem. One way to work around the problem is to exclude each app from the untrusted list in app control and firewall and make it trusted. Thus, the apps would work normally. However, you will have to do this each time you install a new app or the settings may even revert back if you update an existing app. This is a tedious solution. The easy way would be to disable the app control or the AV or IS itself but that'd make the program useless.

Installing Pure 2.0 is actually not going to fix your problems. You wont be able to use Kaspersky's built in features as most are incompatible and you'll be having basic protection with Windows' firewalls. So, there's no point in installing Pure 2.0.

I suggest everyone to wait until there's a fix to this issue for existing Kaspersky 2013 products. Pure users can wait as Pure 3.0 is scheduled to be launched soon which would probably work perfectly. Installing Pure 2.0 wont be the wise option.
Your imagination is your limit. Don't let anyone define it for you.

pure 3.0 - is what I installed and seems to be a problem for windows 8 pro (64 bit).  after installing pure 3.0, i update databases and am required to restart. the restart gives me a black screen with a boot error /missing file (sorry i can't remember exactly what it said)  and will no longer load windows.   i've run the windows 8 disk troubleshoot/repair which removed all installed apps/programs which included only skype/pure 3.0 and office and after reinstalling just pure 3.0, the restart takes me to the same black screen.  i have a 2nd system which was done earlier in the year with pure 2.0 and it seems to work fine.  is there a solution to this problem as I have been unable to find it so far.

P.S.  it would be nice if windows 8 was compatible with my microsoft lifecam 3000 - the windows 7 drivers do work for anyone else who might have that issue.
