Cannot Install FSX on Win 8 (Error 1603 Fatal Error During Installation)

I am unable to install Flight Simulator X Deluxe on Windows 8.  At the end of downloading Disk 2 I get two Error Messages. First,I get Error 1722 stating that "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected".  Then I get Error 1603 stating that a "Fatal Error During Installation. Consult windows installer help msi.chm or MSDM for more info".  This is a brand new computer that I purchased with Windows 8 installed.  I've had no trouble installing Flight Simulator X Deluxe on my other computer that runs on windows 7.  I'm wondering if this is a compatability issue with Windows 8.  I've ruled out any problems with my FSX installation disks, so the problem has to be with Windows 8.  If there's anyone out there who can offer any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions regarding this problem I'm having I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks

Hi,

You may receive this error message if any one of the following conditions is true:

  • The folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to is encrypted.
  • The drive that contains the folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to is accessed as a substitute drive.
  • If the application is not compatible with OS.


Check Compatibility of Flight Simulator X in Windows 8 compatibility centre.

 

The Microsoft Flight Simulator Deluxe Edition does not seem to be compatible with Windows 8. Check the link

If the game is not compatible with the windows 8, I would like you to install the game in the compatibility mode and give this a try.

Install the game in Compatibility Mode:

Step 1: Right-click on the executable file used to install the program, and select “Properties" from the menu.

Step 2: Click the "Compatibility" tab.
Step 3: Check the box next to "Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For."

Choose "Windows 7” from the drop-down menu.

Step 4: Click "OK."

Step 5: Double-click the program's installation icon to install the program.
