Readyboost tab missing

I have a problem with my windows 7 readyboost. I have tried inserting my 2 gb usb flashdrive into my computer, however when I right click it and select properties, there is no readyboost tab. I re-tried this method on my laptop computer, also with windows 7 and it worked, there was a readyboost tab. I would like to know possible methods to retrieve the readyboost on my desktop, I have tried searching and enabling it under services, deleting the EMDMgmt subfiles and editing their values, and changing the format of the usb drive. None of these methods worked so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Is the Readyboost Service set for Automatic startup rather than Manual?

If you create another user and test with that does the Readyboost tab appear?

Have you tried running ChkDsk on the USB drive?

Have you tested with another USB flash drive on this computer?

Have a look at this program.  Maybe removing all trace of your USB Drive from Windows might fix the problem?

Hi theasiancookie,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers.

I would suggest you to first try and search for the option to start Ready Boost. To do this you can follow the below mentioned methods –

Method 1:

Upon plugging the USB key into the computer, I would be greeted with the standard "AutoPlay" dialog box asking how I wanted to the operating system to treat the USB key. However, with Ready Boost you will get the additional option (circled below in the screen capture) of using the key to "speed up my system".

Once you click the "Speed up my system" option, the Properties dialog box for the device is displayed where you can specify to start/stop Ready Boost usage of the device and how much space I want used as a memory cache.

Follow the steps mentioned in the below article and check if your able to enable the option for ready Boost -

You should also take into account that to use Ready Boost, it may result in inconsistent behavior -

·         The device must be able to do 3.5 MB/s for 4 KB random reads uniformly across the entire device and 2.5 MB/s for 512 KB random writes uniformly across the device.

·         The USB Key has to have at least 64mb of free space
