Internal error 2738 when trying to install Palm Pilot software on Window 7

I'm trying to install my Palm Pilot Desktop software but as soon as the wizard is executed I get the internal 2738 message.  The Palm web site says it's outdated Window Script software and directs me to a MircoSoft web site to get an update.  But when I get there, it redirects me to a Windows 7 site - then I'm lost. I'm pretty sure my software is not out of date - this is a brand new Dell computer that is less than a week old.  My Palm Pilot is only about 1 year old (it's copyright date is 2005).  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm not very computer literate so the simpler the better.
Hi Jax Bull,

This error indicates that the VBScript DLL is not properly registered on the Windows 7 machine.

Try this :

Start button -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on Command Prompt, select 'Run as administrator'.

You should be in directory C:\Windows\System32

Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll (enter)

Should get a message box saying DLL has been registered.

Run the installer again.

I did everything you suggested and got all the responses that you indicated would appear.

However when I reran the installation I still get the same internal 2738 message.

I read through the forum/thread that you mentioned but everyone there is referencing Vista and I'm on Windows 7...does that make a difference?

Other suggestions?

Hi Jax Bull,

Though the reference is Windows Vista, the steps and suggestions mentioned in the thread is also applicable to Windows 7.

Try it. There is no harm in trying the steps suggested for Windows Vista.

Oh I agree. And I did follow the instructions....3 times.  And each time the DLL has been successfully registered.   But when I run the install, the Palm Install Wizard immediately abends with the same internal 2738 message each time and exits the Wizard.

What else could it be?

I have the exact same problem, says the DLL is successful, but it immediately goes to the 2738 error and quits installation at the beginning stage.  I have Vista.  I noticed that the Desktop software is only compatible to Windows XP...tried running in that compatability mode, but same error. I think Palm software is very quirky.  Any suggestions would be great, thanks.
