External Drive not accessible in Windows 7, shows up as USB ATA/ATAPI Bridge, doesn't appear in Disk Management.

I'm connecting an old Toshiba MK6025GAS drive by IDE-USB cable to my laptop running Windows 7. Windows has picked it up as USB ATA/ATAPI bridge. It does not appear in Disk Management (if it did I could assign a letter and probably read it). Could someone please advise me on how to get this disk accessible? Thanks!

Have you made any changes to your computer?

I would suggest you to check with other computer if the issue is still persist.

Thanks for your response, but it isn't that the device isn't being recognised- it does appear in 'Printers & Devices' as a USB ATA/ATAPI Bridge (it's profiled as a 'mass storage device').

It doesn't appear in Disk Management, or in Computer where external drives usually show up, so I'm not able to assign a letter.

Windows can't install the driver for it, and as it's a hard drive pulled from an old laptop there's no disk with any drivers on it.

It is very complicated when attempting to connect a USB to IDE conversion cable.  The USB "adapter" will normally require a "powered" connection to be added so they usually have a power cable.
