Portal 2.exe stops responding

Portal 2.exe has stopped working, a problem has caused the program to stop working correctly

everytime i open up this game it starts for a while then stops at the exact same bit coming up with the message above, this also happens to other games, i have tried fixing all errors on my laptop, re-downloading programs such as microsoft .net frame, directx, can someone just please tell me how to fix this?? i am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit

Hi,

1.     Which other games are causing this issue?

2.     Were you able to play these games without any issues earlier?

3.     Did you make any recent hardware or software changes on your computer prior to this issue?

 

Step 1: Try running the Portal 2 game in compatibility mode and check.

Step 2: Check for error messages in event viewer. If you find any error messages then post back the exact error message so that we can assist you better.

Steps to check Application Event log:

a. Click on start.
b. In the search box type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
c. Now click on Application under Event Viewer (local).
d. Now look for event log on right hand side of the Event Viewer windows.

I'm having the exact same issue, and the error in the log is:
Faulting application name: portal2.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4d4c804d
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Exception code: 0xc0000005
