Hi,
When using the Microsoft IME for Japanese input the IME defaults to Japanese Keyboard Layout even though I am using a UK Keyboard.
For e.g. the @ and " are the wrong way round.
I know other keyboards can be chosen under the Japanese Language however choosing anything but the Microsoft IME results in not being able to input Japanese.
So... the IME must be used. How can the layout be changed under the Microsoft IME?
This issue existed in Vista and XP. In fact the last time I remember being able to use a UK keyboard on a Japanes IME was on Windows 98! Any even then it was a bit of a lashup solution to get it working.
Any ideas? :-)

I have recently switch to Windows 7. I have tried the above solution but it does not fixed the issue. My Japanese keyboard layout Sony Notebook still have the @ at the wrong key. Any other suggestion?
Can you check something: Start > Accessories > Easy of Access > On-Screen Keyboard (it will display keyboard on your screen) > click there Shift, and see what character is going to be highlighted over 2, is [@] or maybe ["] ??

Another things. I understand that you have installed both layouts for Japanese: Japanese and IME. Can you also try to add English keyboard, and see how it's going to behave: Start > Control Panel > Clock, Language and Region > Change keyboards or other input methods > Change keyboards... button > Add... button > expand English (United States) > expand Keyboards > check United States-International > OK > OK . Now try to open notepad, select EN from the language bar on the taskbar, and try to write [@] with English keyboard layout

I have also the question. Is it a preinstalled Windows 7. Is it possible that you have some application running in the background which can change character which you are trying to type?
