Spotify app makes system restore fail

I think I'v installed the Spotify app from the Microsoft store three times over the last months, and every time I get the same effect: system restores are no longer possible:

So that's a reason for me not to use the app anymore, although for the rest, it works as a charm!

Anyone any idea why the Spotify app and System Restore are incompatible?

Instead of downloading from the Windows Store, what if you download and install from the Spotify web page?

I had a similar issue when the Slack client first showed up on the Store.

OK, I'll give it a try.

But the app in the store definitely needs some fixing to avoid this system restore failure!

Kind regards

Stijn

Hi Apple,

You may experience this issue when going through system restore if there were corrupted or broken system files that triggered a system conflict. To isolate your concern, we'd like to ask the following:

  • Have you made any changes prior to experiencing the issue?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

In the meantime, we recommend performing a clean boot. A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This will help to eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program. To do this, you can perform the steps posted on this link. In the clean boot environment, check if you'll still experience your concern.

Note
: Please go through the section: Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

For any results, just send us a reply.

Hi Eileen,

I have tried to perform a system restore in safe mode and it shows that Spotify apps was causing the problem. Uninstall it doesn't help, did clean boot and the same dialog box appear. It didn't work :(

Hi,

Thank you for getting back to us. Uninstalling an application may leave files behind depending on how it was uninstalled. We'd like to know how you uninstalled your app. It is because uninstalling via Control Panel > Programs and Features may leave remnants of files and data. Uninstalling via application's uninstaller will help you clear out unwanted files. Furthermore, when you said you have the same concern, are you referring that you uninstalled the same application or you are getting the same error exact error only?

We look forward to your reply.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Since the Spotify apps was downloaded from Windows Store, I could only uninstall it from the Start Menu by right clicking it and press uninstall. My same concern refer to same error(dialog box) appears after trying system restore on clean boot (where Eileen Gal recommended me on Dec 22).

C:\Users\Users\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\Spotify.exe

This file is stopping system restore even after i uninstall it, perform clean boot/safe mode.
