Hi Kheng,

Thank you for the reply.

To understand the issue better, I would need more information from your end.

  1. Are you logged in to a Local Account?
  2. Is the user account an Administrator account?
  3. What exactly happens when you click on "Sign in without a Microsoft Account"?

I suggest you to sign in to Microsoft Account when the computer is in a clean boot state as there might be a service/startup that might be stopping the Microsoft Account to sign in. Setting the system in a clean boot state will help to identify if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Warning: After clean boot troubleshooting steps, refer to the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

Hope this information helps. Reply to the post with an updated status of the issue so that we can assist you further.

I am having the same problem with a lenovo laptop upgraded to 10pro from 7pro. I am logged in as a local administrator account. There are no other accounts on the computer. I get the same grey box when ever I try to log in to the Microsoft account through the store, cortana or accounts. I can log in to my MS account through Firefox but that doesn't help with using any of the features.

As of today the search box is not working either. It was working before but a bit glitchy at times.

I tried the clean boot thing but still could not sign in the MS account so I put it back to normal start mode.

I hope you can come up with a fix for this .

Mark

Hi,

Let us try to run System File Checker (SFC Scan) as this could be an issue with corrupt system files.
System File Checker is a utility in Microsoft Windows that allows users to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files
Perform System File Check (SFC), and then check if this fixes the issue.
Follow the steps:
⦁    Press Windows Key + X.
⦁    Click on Command prompt (Admin).
⦁    In Command prompt, type ‘sfc /scannow’ without quotes and hit enter.
Also see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
Also applies to Windows 10.

Let us know if the issue is resolved or if you require further assistance.

Thanks,
Yaqub Khan

Hi Yaqub Khan;

I ran the sfc scan and there were no issues. I also ran a dism/ restorehealth scan, again no issues.

What next?

Thanks,

Mark
