Taskhost is stopping ... device install reboot required

I have done a clean install of Windows 10 1709.  System, including on board USB, works fine until I plug into the motherboard connectors with external USB devices - card reader, front side usb ports.  Then when I go to windows, Cortana box and Start menu and task bar are inoperable.   When I shut down, I get the Taskhost is stopping..... message.

Have done the clean install several times and also did System File Checker.

Hi Eric,

This issue might occur due to motherboard, USB ports and chipsets are not compatible with the latest Windows update. We suggest that you get in touch with your device manufacturer for an in-depth assistance in updating your BIOS.

Regards.

Hi,

The error message Windows cannot properly load your Device Install Reboot Required file likely occurs due to corrupted Windows registry or device driver. This can also be caused by corrupted download or incomplete installation of Windows. We'll need to gather a bit more information to better identify what's causing this. Kindly answer the following:

  • Which build and version of Windows 10 are you using? To check it, kindly follow the steps provided on this link.
  • Did you make any changes prior to the issue?
  • Can you send us a screenshot of the exact error message that you're getting when using your computer?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

We're looking forward to your response.

I have the same issue. The taskbar is not operabel. Windows icon and the programm icons not operable (not klickable and not with the windows key)

Key combination and short cuts etc. work (Windows+E;...)

Everything in the window is also operable, excell etc.

With Strg+Alt Delete I can Logout the usere but before I have to force shut down of a task which sais "taskhost...install reboot required".Or similar.

Then I can login again and all is fine. This happens since a few weeks and not very often. (However when I look into windows update it does not say reboot required)

I tried to find this task in the taksmanager but could not find it.

I use Defender offline (just scan from time to time) parallel with Avast Antivirus realtime. At one step I though it could be the update of Defender definitions which is are stuck.

When I can I will try to make a printscreen of the task when I have the problem again. This task is stuck.

I have 1709 (Build 16299.125)

I have here the text of the Tastk which is stuck preventing logout, shutdown and certainly blocking the task bar:

Tast Host Windows

Vom Aufgabenhost werden Hintergrundaufgaben angehalten

\Microsoft\Windows\Plug and Play\Device Install Reboot Required

On my other computer I made today the latest 4 updates and now it has the same problem. :-(

On both I have not plueged in anything new.

Thanks for your feedback.

We appreciate the information. To isolate your concern, we'd like to ask the following:

  • Have you made any changes prior to experiencing the issue?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

In the meantime, we recommend performing a clean boot. A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This will help to eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program. To do this, you can perform the steps posted on this link. In the clean boot environment, check if you'll still experience your concern.

Note: Please go through the section: Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

For any results, just send us a reply.

Hi,

I have the same problem. It came outta nowhere. I've not got any updates lately or installed something new (beside games)

I don't know what this is, why and how to solve it.

Have you been able to fix it? If yes, how?

This really sucks.

Regard,

Seppe

Hi,

I currently have windows 10 home 64bits (10.0, build 16299)

I did not recall making any changes prior to the issue. Windows and drivers are up to date.

There are no viruses. I will send a screenshot of I get it again and if it'll alow me to take one ;).

I did not really tried any troubleshooting programs or steps yet. Restarting did nothing.

Do you need an DxDiag file?

And I do not lose anything with a clean reboot right?

Thnx for the help,

Seppe
