How Can I Disable Swipe In Windows 10

Okay we are using the Surface Pro as HMI's (Human Machine Interfaces) in industrial manufacturing environments, nicely mounted in the door of a rugged electrical enclosure with fan and filter package and some other electronics.  The software we run is Win32, and is not one of the Microsoft Universal Apps, so we can not used assigned access.  We want to prevent the operators from going anywhere but our application, which we can easily do because they do not have a mouse or keyboard, and our system hides the task bar.  I found in the Surface Pro app where to disable the Windows button, so they cannot press it.  The only way to put the system into kiosk mode in our case is to run the Classic Shell and write our own script, which I do not want to do.  We are running a couple of different software packages like our SCADA software, SQL Express 2012, etc.

ALL WE NEED IS SOME EASY WAY TO TURN OFF SWIPE IN WINDOWS 10.  If we can get that done we are good to go.  I had an IT friend of mine look just about everywhere tonight and we cannot find it.  Microsoft would it not make sense to have a little button on the Surface Pro app that said Swipe Enabled/Disabled?  We understand the idea of it being a mobile touchscreen, but in our case its a true kiosk, it never moves and it has a dedicated gigabit ethernet connection talking to a plant wide PLC (programmable automation controller).

Not only is it a kiosk, we have a 2nd monitor connected via the mini display to HDMI port and have the two independent of one another.  Meaning we use the Surface Pro 3 as an HMI and a high definition scoreboard displaying real time metrics in manufacturing.  For our clients its a two for one, typically we would need a pc behind each HDTV.  With some custom VB scripting in our SCADA software we can show the HMI on monitor 1 (Surface Pro 3) and different screens and metrics on monitor 2 (HDTV). We love it and so do our clients, now we just need to turn off swipe! Help....any ideas?  Usually I can find what I am looking for by searching the net, but this one has me puzzled.  Really trying to avoid custom scripting, as we have many of these to setup for machines over time. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm glad that this is working for some people. There is hope. I don't know why I can't get "Skip Metro Suite" to work for me. I've tried several combinations of the checkboxes, including all of them, saving and rebooting each time, and it just doesn't do a thing. The Surface / MS 10 has so many problems, but I put up with it for the pen (even though the pressure settings don't work properly). Will just have to keep fiddling...

EDIT: After a full shutdown or two (it didn't work after logging off / restarting) "Skip Metro Suite" has suddenly started working. No more Edge Swipe. Yay! I'm so happy.

I am having the same problem.  This search window popping up all the time is driving me bananas!  I have searched "edge swipe" and nothing comes up.  I would like to know if anyone  finds an answer as well.   Thank you.

Ahh.. there we go! A big thank you for the final touch!

This issue have haunted me for months.

"Skip Metro Suite" + check all + full shut down (note: restart is NOT enough!)

Successful on Windows 10 + Trekstor Wintron 7"

edgeswipes cannot be disabled under from windows8 onwards. i believe this is deliberate to protect the embedded operating system market. with windows embedded, the OEM is easily able to exclude edge swipe functionality from the operating system. infact, i see no benefit for edge swipes with embedded systems as it leads to an unstable system.

Hi Guys,

Finally I found the solution. You need to turn off explorer.exe. Open a command line (cmd) and enter this code.

taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

by doing that all the features of windows such as swipe and start menu will be deactivated and you can run your program in full screen mode. Touch click feature will not be affected and works as usual. to return the system to its previous state type in explorer.exe in cmd. Hope it can solve your problem as it did mine.

Yes!!! It worked for me!

Loaded Skip Metro Suite and first I switched off edge swipe task switching.  Reboot.  Not working.

Switched off all edge options (checked all of the boxes).  Reboot.  100% working. No more edge swipes!

Thank you!

Hi Microsoft Team / To Whom It May Concern,

I have a computer running on Windows 8.1 and recently has upgraded to Windows 10. However, I would like to disable the edge swipe function on the internet. At times, I moved the mouse cursor from the bottom edge to the top (just wanted to click on something) and accidentally this motion swiped back to the previous page that I viewed. It certainly is not a nice experience when I am doing something important or submitting a form or whatever on the internet.

Hopefully in near future, Microsoft can bring up a resolution to fix this imperfection in Windows 10.

Other than that, Windows 10 is not too bad. Thanks.

Regards,
Jsy
