Windows Update may have updated drivers available that may be relevant to your current issue. Many times, updated drivers are listed in the "Optional" section of Windows Update. Install any pending updates on the pc to check if that helps.

I suggest you to uninstall and re-install audio drivers from the manufacturer website. Check, if it helps.

1. Click on Windows key + X and then, select Device Manager.
2. Open device manager.
3. Expand ‘Sound Video and Game Controllers”.

Hi, Thanks for your reply, sorry for the delay, but Easter got in the way.

I tried your suggestions with the following results.

Automatic updates are installed ok, but I tried manual updates of which 2 were available. 1 installed ok. but the other didn't, giving me a message of:-Sound update. IDT-AUDIODEVICE-IDT HIGH DEFINITION aUDIO codec-error 0x800700ip

I then went to update audio devices.

I found 2

AMD HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO DEVICE updated, but IDT HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO CODEC said it couldn't be found.

I have also noticed that when I go to the sound system on the Control Panel the only connection showing is the hdmi

connection to the tv. It's as if the monitor speakers are not installed or cannot be found.

Any suggestions?

Thanks MILKY888

Hi,

Thank you for the update.

  • Are you referring to sound from TV or Windows itself?
  • If you are referring to sound from TV, are you able to hear the sound from Windows after removing the connection from TV?

I suggest you to try the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run Audio troubleshooter.

Follow the below steps:

  1. Type Troubleshooting in the Search area on the taskbar and select Troubleshooting.

  2. Select Hardware and Sound.

  3. Select Playing Audio under Sound and follow the on screen.

Method 2: Update Audio driver.

Follow the below steps.

       1) Press Windows key + X key when you are at desktop.

       2) Select Device Manager.

       3) Expand Sound video and games Controller.

       4) Right on the audio drivers and click on Update driver software.

Have tried both these but to no avail. It is almost as if t Windows 10 refuses to admit there are speakers connected to the monitor. I have a speaker symbol on the taskbar in the bottom right, but if I disconnect the HDMI lead I get a red line across the symbol as if it is now telling me there are no speakers connected.

Hi,

Do you get speakers included to  your monitor? if no, you need to connect your external speakers in order to get your sound back. If yes, you need to download your sound drivers from your laptop provider.

Bye for now

Still not working. Have asked the manufacturer (EMPREX) for help, but they don't seem interested. Remember this if you are thinking of buying EMPREX products. Am now going to see if I can find the original instalation instructions and perhaps uninstall the monitor and then reinstall from scratch.

Thanks to all who have tried to help.
