Reinstalling printer driver for HP 1136 MFP

I recently bought a Dell laptop in April 2019 and since then i'm been deluged with problems with windows. First the network adaptor kept switching off at its convenience. Now since today I was unable to access our printer on our group, so decided to delete and reinstall. It was a big mistake. Now as I try to run the install package it doesnt do anything. The HP printer when connected give the option of an install exe file, but when I run it, it gives an error "the app has been stopped to protect you".

This is a horrendous situation to be in. I have 5 dell laptops and windows 10 on all of them. What is the solution ? Do i need to reinstall windows? Please give me back windows 7. that was so much simpler. Windows 10 evidently controls everything and allows nothing.

Good day ! I am an independent adviser here to help you!

What have you done for this issue so far? If nothing please try the fixes here: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-fix-app-has-...

It most likely will just require you to disable smartscreen in order to get that file to run. Should be good after that.

Hi Jim

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

Did you try right clicking the Installer then click 'Run as administrator'

also, try disabling User Account Control Temporarily then try again.

Click Start, type: user account control
Hit Enter

Drag the slider to the bottom, then click Save changes.

Try installing again.

OR

Click Start, type: CMD
Right click CMD
Click Run as administrator

Drag and drop the installer into that window, then hit Enter.

See if it installs then.
Best regards,

Hi Jim I'm Peter an independent advisor, not to worry that's Windows Defender Smartscreen protecting you. To unblock:

Right-click the file.
Click Properties.
Click the checkbox next to Unblock so that a checkmark appears.
Click Apply.

If you wish to disable you can launch Windows Defender Security Center from your Start menu, desktop, or taskbar.
Click the App and browser control button on the left side of the window then click off on the various options

Hi there:

I experienced something similar on my HP F4480 printer as well. Although I wasn't able to solve the issue with the install exe file not running properly, I managed to get around it by installing the "HP Smart" App, which is the HP printer driver/software for apps, through the Microsoft Store, and was able to restore basic functionality to my printer/scanner, which I connect via USB.

There isn't a lot of information on the App's store site, and the App is a bit barebones, so I can't be certain if it'll work for your printer and your network setup, but at least the App won't be blocked by windows security since it installs from the Microsoft Store, if you would like to give it a try.

Best of luck,

GT
