ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 not compatible with Windows 10?

My laptop is HP Compaq nw8440 running Windows 7 and ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 display driver. When I do a Win 10 "Check your PC" it says "ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, the display manufacturer hasn't made your display compatible with Windows 10. Check with the manufacturer". Will this stop Windows 10 from being installed successfully?

I have no driver problems in Windows 7.

Hello,

Welcome to Microsoft Community. I will certainly help you with the issue that you are facing.

Most applications and hardware drivers designed for Windows 7 or later should work with Windows 10. It is best to contact the hardware manufacturer for the drivers, as they keep on releasing updates for the hardware. You may refer to the section "The Reservation App indicates I have incompatible hardware (ie. CPU, Bluetooth, Video Card, Printer) and/or software, what should I do?" on the following link.

My son uses a HP Compaq nx9420 also using the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600.  The Windows 10 check actually returned that the PC could not be upgraded solely due to this graphics adapter (despite the adapter working fine in Windows 7 and meeting the stated minimum requirements).

I found this TechNet forum post which convinced me the upgrade could work:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/c6ad0eba-748a-4766-9ec5-350a55200010/ati-mobility-radeon-x1600-graphics-card-windows-8-driver-missing?forum=w8itprohardware

The question is about Windows 8, but the person providing the answer says the solution worked for his Windows 10 installation too.

I downloaded the Windows 10 Upgrade ISO and followed the instructions given in that TechNet forum post.  The laptop is now running Windows 10 successfully at the full resolution supported by the graphics adapter.

Hi same problem here.

I got in touch with "Support" at AMD and MS they both gave the same answer, it's just up to X1600 (X1000 series) users to wait, updates will happen, but did not know when ?

Upgraded with the ISO. All data was preserved, and the activation was retained too.

I had backups prepared and my copy of the Win7 activation key, but the upgrade ISO just worked. I only had to reinstall the graphics driver as outlined.

You can successfully install ATI x1600 mobility on Windows 10 ;)

I have spent some time resolving this problem and managed to install the graphics on nc4830.

First I downloaded via Internet Explorer ATI Mobility v5200 driver for windows 7 x64. ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 is based on ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 for notebooks as probably the same chip was used. Only the Bios is different and allows the use of professional drivers (for CAD and 3D applications optimized).

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=v5200

Unpack it wit 7-zip and go to device manager -> upgrade driver -> Browse for driver software ... -> Let me pick from list of device drivers ... -> Have disk -> Browse to where you unpacked package with drivers -> Only click on Open with selecting first inf of listed and next.

Thats worked for me and x1600 mobility works far more better than I expected :).

I hope that this will help you.

Ok! I think the problem is in driver you have installed on windows 8..1

Try to remove it and install "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" driver and then try to upgrade Win 8.1 to Win 10. When doing verification will not be able to establish that it is a driver that is not compatible with Windows 10. I have upgraded from windows 7.1 to windows 10 without any problems. The only thing any driver for x1600 did not work until and i stuck with 1024x768 resolution till  I found this driver for V5200.

Even powerplay is working :)!

Good News,

I,ve downloaded and now have OS W10.

I downloaded W10 and the OS changed to  Microsoft Basic Display Adaptor, I then searched for a WDM compatible driver, (Not WDDM).

I used,

Driver Provider,         ATI

Driver Date,              24-Nov-06

Driver Version,         8.31.100.32

Chip Type                (0x71c5)

Resolution is now 1280 x 800

Ok then, the driver is from 2006 why on earth can't AMD provide a link ?

I,m guessing they want users of x1600 to purchase newer hardware ?

I don't play games, so can't comment on the performance of the card with W10. I can comment that the images are very good, crystal clear in fact. HD on You Tube etc.

I use a Toshiba Satellite Pro A100, its still doing a great job with Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 CPU / Centrino Duo T5500 @ 1.66 GHz. It's nearly 8 years old !

I,ve seen them on E-Bay for £35 !

4.00GB Ram is in place but only 3.00GB is usable because I have a 32-bit system.

Hope this info helps,

Mike
