'Extract All' option missing in File Explorer

I have read the other threads on this issue Extract All Missing and did not find a solution that corrected the problem. I had this function at some point in File Explorer. I have followed the steps that say to be sure File Explorer is the option in the properties but it does not come up as an option to choose. I have tried several ways and still no luck. I do not see a thread that explains how to get this reinstated. I feel I have been going in circles looking for a fix. I have tried the command prompts and still nothing. This is very frustrating, why do these things just drop off after updates and no solution to get them back?

Hello Group :-)   I had the same exact issue and after much trial and error I uncovered what I call a dirty little secret perpetrated by WinZip. In my case, WinZip was "pre-installed" on my windows 10 machine, blocking access to the "Extract All" menu item in the File Explorer right click menu. The pre-installation of WinZip made it the default file compression app and I would have had to purchase it to use it (and of course WinZip had a convenient trial version there ready for me to download and have to purchase after 30 days). WinZip was already in the File Explorer as a menu item even though it had not been installed, just pre-installed when I purchased my machine in early 2015. I promptly and completely uninstalled  WinZip (pre-installed) and like magic the "Extract All" menu item suddenly reappeared. It was a lot of wasted time and a very under handed trick by WinZip. It is gone now and I am happy.

You can also type in  your cortana bar "default app" and it will open the settings that lets you choose your default apps. Find .zip and click on the win-zip icon, a pop up will let you choose an alternative in this case Windows. This way you can have the best of both worlds if you need to open one of those pesky .rar files that seem to sneak in every once in a while!

I can't use WinZip at all. I'd have to buy it. Can't afford it. What else could I do??

To unzip a zipped file, just right click on it and then Extract All.

Hm, but did you not see that the entire point of this thread is that the 'Extract All' is missing?

Yep. I had a sneaky suspicion this was the case. Indeed it was.

After uninstalling winzip, "Extract All" re-appeared. :)

Hope this helps some out there
