How do I put an accent mark above a letter in a word?

How do I put an accent mark above a letter in a word? For example, the word 'nee' that is used to mean "born as" in wedding announcements?
Answer
Answer

In this particular example: Ctrl+' (apostrophe) followed by e will insert é.

You can also turn on NumLock and press Alt+130 (using the digits on the numeric keypad).

For others: on the Insert tab of the ribbon, click Symbol > More Symbols...

Make sure that (normal text) is selected in the Font dropdown.

Scroll up or down until you see the accented letter that you want and select it.

You'll see the keyboard shortcut near the bottom of the dialog.

Click Insert to insert the character into the document.
