No drag and drop to move emails to folders??

Outlook 2013 seems to make it nearly impossible to use folders to organize and save emails. I use folders to organize and save emails by subject. But you can't drag and drop emails into folders in Outlook 2013. Office.com says you can move emails to folders using "QuickSteps." To do that, I'd have to create a Quickstep with a "move to X folder" function for EVERY FOLDER. To move an email, you highlight it, then click on the Quickstep for that folder in the toolbar. What was a simple drag and drop function becomes a multi-step process.

Worse yet, even after I've done each of those steps, after I click the "Quickstep-move to X folder" icon, I get no visual indication that the email has actually been moved. It stays in my inbox, with no marking of any kind that I can see, so the "move to folder" function is really a "copy" function.

If I add another step and delete the email left in the inbox, Outlook 2013 deletes the copy in the folder also, defeating the entire purpose of saving to a folder.

AFAIK this is not possible, you can try to remove and re-add the account and check if that makes any differences.

I too used to save emails in many folders, but with the NEW search functionality of windows and office you can just store everything in a file folder and it will still find everything. it is a change in thinking but works great

Yes, this change sucks.

Our law firm relies on being able to save individual emails (by easy clicking-and-dragging) to clients' individual folders.

Now it's all a mess!  Ugh.

So I've seen that others have had this same problem. Does anyone by chance have a solution to regaining the click-n-drag? A plugin? Or are we just screwed and need to deal with it?

I am able to click and drag (Outlook 2013) except when I'm in a search window. When I'm in a search window, I can click and drag, and everything looks like it's supposed to, but the email does not actually move--it copies to the folder to which I dragged it, and the original stays in the Inbox. If I delete it from the Inbox, it also deletes from the folder to which I had dragged it.

This was also happening to me.

I just learned that in Outlook 2013, there are Search Options (File - Options - Search) that are different from previous versions of Outlook. Mine, I discovered, had been chosen to "Include results only from:  'Current folder. Current mailbox when searching from the inbox'." I changed that setting to be "Include results only from: 'Current folder'." NOW, when I did a search and then moved files from within the search window, they did what they were supposed to do: moved over into my file folder and were no longer visible in the inbox / search window. YAY!!

While Outlook is your active window, hit "Esc" key several times, and drag-and-drop should come back. It worked for me when I experienced the same problem.

As a law firm, you should be using OneNote with Outlook and sharing emails with a click of a button to OneNote. Thn sharing notebooks though OneNote.
