Teams hogging memory, running slowly

Hi

Teams is almost killing my laptop. Here's an example:

Is there anything  can do to reduce Teams' memory usage?

Or do I just need to buy more memory?

Thanks!

Hi oldhasbeen,

Thanks for posting in our forum. For your problem, I suggest you try to clear the caches of Teams and see if there is any improvement:

Go to  %appdata%\Microsoft\teams Then delete the following files. As a side note, you can move the files to another place to avoid the data loss.

a. In Application Cache > Cache folder, delete all files in it.

b. In Blob_storage folder, delete all files.

c. In Cache folder, delete all files.

d. In databases folder, delete all files.

e. In GPUCache folder, delete all files.

f. In IndexedDB folder, delete the .db file.

g. In Local Storage folder, delete all files.

h. In tmp folder, delete all files.

If the issue persists, we suggest you vote for the feedback below via the following link. There is no option in Teams to reduce the memory usage.

Many features of current programs have been designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback.

Best Regards,

Huni

Thanks for this but it doesn't really help.

I've voted for the UserVoice option and two others on similar themes:

https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/34789129-high-cpu-time-memory-and-disk-reads-writes

https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/33847345-desktop-app-should-use-much-less-system-memory

.. and will circulate an email at the place I'm working asking others to do the same.

Until this issue is dealt with, no way can Teams replace Skype for Business in major applications like call centres

The feature is still being worked upon. Many different changes are going into Teams and will provide a slow but steady pace to our performance increases.

I don’t have any new details at the moment but hope to get some additional feedback in the next several weeks.

Hi oldhasbeen,

Thanks for your information. You can also try to re-install the Teams app(https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads) and see if there’re any improvements. Or you can use the Teams web app as a workaround.

Best Regards,

Huni

Following (I think) a recent Office365 update, I am now seeing significant performance problems that I suspect are due to Teams

It consumes so much cpu that my pc becomes unusable (keystrokes and mouse movements lag by a second or two)

When I kill Teams, all is well again

I have the exact same issue. My Outlook, for example, will become completely unusable (at random times) while Teams is running. I thought at first it was Outlook that was the culprit, but as soon as I kill Teams, Outlook and other applications return to normal response times. We have considered using Teams as our standard web conferencing solution, but will not be going down that path with these performance issues. Poor multi-monitor support (inability to split content between screens, which I've reported elsewhere) is another impediment.

I have exactly the same issue.  I cannot recommend Teams while the latest version of the process hogs 65% of CPU power - even when not signed in - and kills our batteries.  It was working fine when we evaluated it last year but now it's unusable.

I am having the same issue.  Quite frustrating.  Outlook just freezes.  How can MS still be pushing apps out with such a fundamental floor as excessive resources usage.

MS takes away Skype, makes us use SFB and ensures we cannot share contacts and then give us Teams which is rubbish.

Sick to death of MS dictating how, when and what we use.... sigh.  Wouldn't be so bad if it was stable, reasonable costs and simple to use.  and you keep changing stuff everytime you put our a fix or release and changing stuff that just does not need to change - moving icons around, hiding the ones you use all the time, etc, etc.

We're only a small business amoungst millions so just have to suck it up.

The "fix" suggested is complicated, not available to many non-admin users and is only temp until those temp get used again.  Pretty poor outcome.

We will stop using it now and will look for a better, cheaper solution that works.
