Two files with in Windows\Temp directory are constantly written at high speed (according to Resource Monitor)

Recently I constantly see two files being written at ~4MB/s total in resource monitor:

C:\Windows\Temp\WPR_Initiated_DiagTrackAotLogger_WPR System Collector.etl and some other with similar name

This load does not go away and rises from time to time periodically (sometimes up to ~15MB/s).

What is it, and should I be concerned about it? WPR seems to stand for Windows Performance Recorder.

I don't see any slowdown though, as my main disk is an SSD.

it gave me back the message :

There are no trace profiles running.
        Error code: 0xc5583000

and the files continue being written and using my disk capacity (which stays at 100% at all times).

What build is this?

the etl file is written by the diagnostics tracker. Does this happen all the time or only sporadically?

what files are there written to? What process perform the writes?

This is initiated by the Connected User Experiences and Telemetry service, this could get triggered at regular intervals (once per login session) and should not run for long periods (more than x minutes).

What version of Windows are you running?

#Run command prompt CMD as administrator

#type these 3 codes:-

wpr

wpr -stop

wpr -cancel

#this command only works when you are using CMD with administrative privileges

There are no trace profiles running.

this code is shown only when you are not running CMD as admin.

I'm on 10.0.14393.479 and the wpr -cancel command stopped the high disk usage.

For as far as I can see, this was happening for extended periods. Opening the .etl file, it is reporting events at 2641 seconds. I assume that is the elapsed time from the start of the trace. About 45 minutes...

Weird, wpr is not included with Windows 10, it's a program included in the Performance toolkit (part of the ADK or the SDK). So you must have this on your system and someone must have started wpr.
