Build 16179 error 0x80070005

Having the same issue. I get this message from windows update:

Tried several fixes including stopping the windows update service, subinacl.exe with the script provided and even logging on as another user with no luck.

I tried lots of suggestions on here. DISM restore health fails and I don't have an image of 16176 and don't think there is a downloadable for it either so DISM won't work.

I ran a cmd script from one site for example that seemed to make a lot of checks on my registry but that failed. I've tried everything out there and I'm not the only one with this issue. Maybe the next Insider release will work?

In the end I gave up and downloaded an early Win 10 ISO and did a clean install, then rejoined the Insider program and updated to 16179 as originally intended.

I think Microsoft are missing a trick with their Win 10 Recovery options. Currently there are no options to reinstall the OS without loosing all the software and setups you've painstakingly installed over time. There is an option to reinstall and "keep your apps" or similar but that is misleading. It destroys your software.

Of course reinstalling both the OS and your software may not be a good idea if you are doing it to sort a problem as you may just be reinstalling the problem. But there are times when you are sure it is the OS that is broken but don't want the hassle of reinstalling of all your stuff. I don't think any of the in-place repair options go as far as this do they?
