"Sharing" Add-On Content

My husband and I both have an Xbox360. Mine is in the bedroom and his is in the living room. We have an Xbox Live Gold account, to which we are both members. We have recently been playing L4D2 and were wanting the two add-on packages (Sacrifice and The Passing). Do we have to buy points for each console and purchase the add-ons separately? Or can I add points to my console, purchase the add-ons, download them - then recover gamertag on his console, re-download the add-ons to his console and we both be able to play the content on Xbox Live? offline?

If so, does this violate the terms of usage (don't want to do that, I love Xbox Live)?

Thanks in advance!

Two licenses exist, a console license and an account license.

Now the console license belongs to the 360 the DLC was first downloaded to. What this means is that any account on the console can access that content, online or off.

The account license of course belongs to the gamertag that was used to purchase the DLC. With this license you can play the content on any console but ONLY when connected to Live.

So download first on the other console, play on your 360 with the account license.

It is worth noting that while there is nothing technically wrong with sharing DLC in this manner it is fraught with problems. The biggest being that if the 360 with the console license ever needs to be replaced, then that license is gone. The only way to get it back would be to perform a license transfer but that would give the console license for ALL your DLC to that new console.

A license transfer can be done on your console by going to the My Xbox channel and there selecting your Avatar. Then scroll across to the Account Management section and here selecting Manage Account. In this section there will be an option at the bottom of the first panel to transfer your licences to the console. Bear in mind however that this can only be done once every four months.

You can also do the process on the web at http://www.xbox.com/drm though at one point in the process you will need to sign-in with your account on the new 360.

Here is the FAQ on the process http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Support/LicenseMigration/FAQ

License transfer only works every 120 days

And only changes the offline console license not which account it is on
