Xbox scratches my disks

Hello everyone,

I have an Xbox 360 Pro Model bought on 2009. I'm having some serious problem with this console. Maybe I can get over random freezes and disconnection with no reason from Xbox Live. BUT THIS NO

In a short timespan my Xbox scratched not one, but two of my disks. This disk were Call of Duty 3 (used, but working before the machine scratched it) and Halo 3 ODST.

Now before you jump at me saying "Don't move your Xbox when playing it" I respond to you that "I already know to not move the machine during playing, and I keep it strictly horizontal and in a big PC stand that can't be moved at all because my Xbox is placed near the drawers part so impossible to move if not pushed with some force."

Still my Xbox freely scrateched those disks. Starting from Call of Duty 3, game was working fine and the Xbox was vibrating a lot. I finish the mission, when the game autosave "error reading disk" came up. But the strange thing the message didnt' stay on screen, instead it fade in and out repedately like going crazy. Couldn't stop it even by opening the disk tray, neither from the power button so I had to unplug the power cord (very extreme measure). The game refuses to load past the first loading screen when you start it from the Xbox Dashboard, and the message still was going crazy pop in and out. Ok, fine! I had the game since a month before starting to play (was doing other games) so I couldn't go to GameStop to change it, the 1 week warrance expired. So I had to spend 2400 Microsoft Point to buy it from Marketplace, wasting 6 GB of hard drive. So here I lose other money.

But now comes the worst part. I'm an huge Halo fan. I have all games made for Xbox 360. My Halo 3 ODST is gone now. I lasted play the game on June, wanted to play it again and... THE XBOX DOES IT AGAIN. A thinky (but perfect) circular scratch prevent me to play EVERY LEVEL IN THE GAME. Intro has skipping music but it plays, main menu load but I can't choose any mission, firefight map or even go theather.

Here's what happens: I choose a mission, the loading bar jumps from 1% to 29% repedeately, then a message saying: "Failed loading contents. Players must clean Halo 3 ODST disk". If I try to start game from "Start Campaign" (the first option in main menu). The loading screen pops up but then a message saying: "Failed starting game" pops up. I'm stuck with a game I love I can't play thanks to this faulty machine. The game WASN'T USED. I bought it along my Xbox paying an outstading 60€. Ok, Call of Duty 3 was used so okay... but Halo 3 ODST NO! THAT NO!

This is the last straw. Seriously now I want a refund of 2400 Microsoft Point (for Call of Duty 3) and 60€ (Halo 3 ODST). Or at least having all my disks changed, I care more for my ODST disk BTW.

I hate how this problem is stil present, even on the new model. Seriously Microsoft, why you bother making a new slim model that looks cool but still have this manifacturing problems that YOU ACKNOWLEDGED BUT STILL NOT FIXED???

I have a PS3 and sooner or later, if my Xbox scratches the 3rd disk, I'm done with Microsoft and I'm not selling the Xbox (avoiding other people to have my problem) I will just dump it and sell all my games. I'm not a fanboy, I also have the first Xbox and that was a great console. You just messed up with Xbox 360.

Not to mention about my 2 mic that died at same day, and controllers with broken bumpers, but that's another story.

Hello,

That really sucks your xbox did that, but you should of never put another disc in it after it scratched the first one(fool me once shame on you fool me twice.....)

Your best bet is to get it repaired cause odds are it will scratched another disc  Contact Support

There is also a disc replacement program, its worth a look to see if any of your scratched games can be replaced MS Disc Replacement

What? I hope you are joking! Replacing the disk would cost me 20 bucks even if the problem was the console and not me beign careless?!?

After spending 60€ for ODST and 19,99€ for Call of Duty 3 (used, but I still spent Microsoft Point to rebuy it which I could use to buy LIMBO or other Xbox Live Arcade) do I have still to pay again?

No way, this time Microsoft have to pay ME! Either replacing ODST FOR FREE, or refunding me 2400 Microsoft Point I spent for Call of Duty 3 (and wasting 6 GB, as mentioned in my first post).

This is absolutely bullshit, and sorry for using such a word but I can't explain in other way my dissapointement. I'd wait for another reply about this. If I ever manage to repair those disks (and I'm trying hard), I still have that 2400 Microsoft Point for CoD 3 that I want back. I spend a lot of money in subscriptions, hardware and software for this console, and this isn't the way Microsoft have to threat me...

Please do something!

Stuff happens. Is it inconvenient your disc drive is doing this? Sure. But to expect MS to replace ALL of your scratched games when common sense should have told you not to put any other discs in the drive when it happened the first time is just ridiculous. YOU made the decision to put another disc in after the first disc got scratched, that is called USER ERROR and when that happens the USER accepts any and all responsibility for their actions.

Now, the first disc that got scratched I could understand you wanting to have that replaced, but the other ones are on you. Either way you would need to contact support and see what they are willing to do, if anything.

Before you do anything else about the scratched discs you should check with your local video rental stores and see if they fix scratched discs. If they do it would be an alternative to try. Most shops here in NY will do that for around $3USD/disc.

Yeah, and I should not use the Xbox? The problem is how after that event games worked fine.

I got my disk problem on 11/05, I finished mission ,disk error. Fine, then games played well, till this happens again.

It just happened that ODST scratched, and the funny thing is how I played it back in June when the game worked, I pull it out on Xbox and put in the cover. I never toss disk around.

You call it user error? Well, I call it Microsoft error to keep selling console with this problem! So I blame them, not myself to trying playing videogames.

And anyway I don't live in NY I live in Italy LOL!
