If its under a year old, take it back to the shop you got it from.

As above but just to mention the rrod is covered by a 3 year warranty so it will be a free repair

No its not a 3 year warranty for rrod on the S models, its only a 1 year warranty. 3 year warranty was for the old style 360's but as the S model is a completely new design it is only covered by a 1 year warranty

Know your rights people, in the EU all consumer goods must have a minimum 2 year warranty.

Software updates don't cause hardware faults.

the xbox is just over 3 months old. had to quote the sales of goods act to them as they are refusing to replace it and are trying to refer me to XBOX.

where did you get it from? like above know your rights but be polite i never go the extra mile for a rude person.  but also be firm, do as you have quote sales of good act and if that fails i would go to the companies website to get customer services to complain. do it in the shop as that normally rattles them if that fails a strongly worded letter works a treat from that point. threaten things like informing  watchdog of the poor customer service etc.

all that works for me, but normally i don't get that far. normally i go in all polite and looking a little upset and get what i want.

I've just spent an hour downloading this update and my console is playing silly buggers with me now. It's not went RROD, it's just doing strange things. No more YT videos, it'll find them yet won't play them. Currently active friends are missing. No adverts in the bottom right-hand corner. A few things more, but in general just a lot of bits'n'bobs not working properly!

My slim crashed 3 times before installing. :S seems to be working fine now though.
