I'm wondering about the utility of paypal if we have to link it to a credit/debit card.

I was glad to hear about the paypal feature because it could have been much easier to me to get some ms points but i'm still at the same point... i'll have to buy some near my games dealer or at the supermarket

You don't necessarily need to link a credit card. You can also use it just by sending money to the Paypal account, either from an attached bank account or from another user's Paypal account. Plus, it acts as another layer of security.
