found an xbox, no hard drive, has red ring...what should i do?

I found just an xbox 360, but it had no hard drvie. i put a hard drive in to see if it works and it had the red ring. soooo should i buy a hard drive and get it repaired? or does it make more sense to just buy a new 360? How much does a hard drive and repair cost?

How did you find it? A repair costs 100 dollars I think. I would just buy a new 360 tbh because the console you "found" could have been banned.

The hard drive is nothing to do with the RRoD. Have you tried powering the console on without the hard drive connected?

Also you found a 360? It might be worth informing the police and seeing if it has been reported as stolen. Microsoft work with law enforcement to track down stolen consoles, the last thing you'd want is the cops kicking in your door because you think you have a bargain.

Also you can still use that xbox as a trade-in (I think) at Gamestop towards a new one.

haha yes i found it. my brother found it on the job when he cleaned out an empty apartment after the people moved out. and no one claimed it. and yes i did try it without the hard drive

Well if it didn't work than it's possible the people left it behind, but like I said, I wouldn't risk trying to get it fixed because it may have been banned. Just get a new one.

If they left it behind,i would just chuck it.Theres a reason they left it there,because its broken or it was modded and broken.So its not worth getting fixed.Why else would they leave a 360??Its not worth the risk.

I'd open it up and see if there's anything obviously wrong, thats just me. It may be legit, IDk, I just like tinkering unless it's obviously modded
