Disk Continues to spin in tray after ejected. I noticed this after the update.

I noticed that after the update, when my disk is ejected it is still spinning for a few seconds after the tray is open. I am afraid that this will result in scratched disks. It happens when a game or DVD is ejected. I am not sure if it is caused by the update or just a coincidence. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

I haven't seen any other reports of this associated wtih the update. I suggest installing games to the HDD, to see if that resolves the issue.

I'm having the same problem. I'm in the main hub (Game Marketplace, My Xbox, etc.) and I eject the game. Still happens.

I havn't heard of this as a major issue after the update. If it's happening to you, it sounds like a mechanical fault with your consoles' DVD drive. Suggest you try Installing your game or if that is not an option go to the dashboard first to quit a game and then when the 360 is no longer spinning the disc, open the disc tray.

Haven't noticed it after an update, but I noticed it happening straight after I received the E64 error and a RR down in the 4th quadrant that happened about 3 hours ago for me.  I tried a mix of games that were either installed to the HDD or not, and there was really no difference in which ones would still be spinning after being ejected.  I'm guessing mine is linked with the sudden E64 error, but can't seem to find any confirmation or anything explaining common issues and fixes (red ring or not).

My disc drive has been acting up as well after the new update.. I posted about it already, though. It'd make a beeping sound (like the laser in the DVD drive) and definitely wasn't normal. Couldn't get Microsoft to tell me what to do (sent them an email) so I'll just live with it until it breaks. It doesn't seem to affect gameplay, though.

About your issue, it sounds normal to me. On the majority of my consoles the disc will spin for a few seconds after ejecting but does not happen with my 360 (or my PS3, for that matter). You should take note that when you go back to the dashboard the disc will run to identify what game it is so it will say "Play *game name*" on the dashboard. If you're worried you can always contact Microsoft. But it sounds to me like the console is spinning the disc REALLY fast. Games that do this to you you should install to your HDD to be safe, that's what I did with Skyrim since my Skyrim disc is scratched up. (not major scratches but still noticeable and doesn't seem to be a problem with my 360 being unable to read it)

Thanks for the input shreds97.  A year or so ago mine would make an odd sort of beep noise (not fully a beep, but definitely digital sounding) and then eventually it just stopped and went away.  Perhaps it worked itself out or something as I never heard it again.  For me with the disc still spinning after it's been ejected, I would let the disc sit in the tray while on dashboard doing nothing several minutes after the game had been identified and it would still spin once it was out of the console.  I just think my disc drive is about had it since my Elite is almost 4 years old.  I tested a few games that were and weren't installed to the HDD and it didn't seem to make a difference with the spinning upon being ejected.

Mister Darcy, I did notice that after the fact and did a face palm upon that realization. I will add a new post so it's more relevant. :)
