Hi Diane,

Thank you for posting your question in Microsoft Community.

From your issue description, I understand that you are receiving the error “Windows\System32\Atibtmon.exe  Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library”. Please let me know if you are not facing this issue.

I can understand the inconvenience caused to you. I will help you resolve the issue!

Note: atibtmon.exe is an Adobe Acrobat Update Service.

Before we proceed with troubleshooting, I would need little information on the issue.

  1. When do you exactly receive the error? For Example: when you login to desktop, when you try to run the program, etc.
  2. What is the exact or complete error message?
  3. Did you install "Adobe Acrobat program" in the computer?

Try the general troubleshooting methods and check after each method:

Method 1: Start the computer in “Clean boot”, to disable startup programs.

a)      Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.

b)      In the ‘Run’ windows type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.

c)      Click the ‘Boot’ tab and uncheck ‘Safe Boot’ option.

d)      On the ‘General’ tab, click to select the option ‘Selective startup’, and then click to clear the option Load startup items check box.

e)      On the ‘Services’ tab, click to select the ‘Hide all Microsoft services’ check box, and then click ‘Disable all’.

f)       On the ‘Startup’ tab, click ‘Open Task Manager’. In the Task Manager window under startup tab, right click on “atibtmon.exe” which are enabled and select ‘Disable’.

g)      Click ‘OK’, and then click Restart.

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to boot to normal startup.

a)      Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.

b)      In the ‘Run’ windows type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.

c)      On the ‘General’ tab, click the ‘Normal Startup’ option, and then click ‘OK’.

Thanks for your feedback.

The problem starts when I update the Mobility Radeon HD 4250 driver, I believe the atibtmon.exe is a ATI Brightness Monitor, is not related to Adobe.

The message is shown everytime I start the notebook, and when I wake it up from suspensión.

Please tell me if there is any solution

Sorry "no" to the French.  I went to ATI, there is a program to update driver. I did and have no further episodes of runtime error for Mobility Radeon HD 4250 driver.  Thanks to all you helped.  I hope this helps other people that may have the same problem.

Diane, Following you can read what I do to resolve the problem (excuse for the quality of my english, I live in a french world :

I think I found how  to correct the problem.

1. On the AMD site, I downloaded the drivers for my Graphic card. At http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx , I used the 'Automatically detect and install' function to find the good drivers, downloaded and stored them on my PC;

2. I uninstalled the old drivers;  See the 4 video (http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx) who show how to identify your Graphic card, download, uninstall and install new drivers;

3. I uninstalled the old drivers;

4. I installed the new version of the drivers;

5. I restarted the computer;

6. The message didn't not appear.

Last thursday, I upgraded to Windows 8. I upgraded the drivers (Graphic card) but I didn't uninstall the old one before. I just installed the new version without uninstall the old.

I'm not sure but I think that uninstall the old drivers before install the new one, correct the problem.

Let me know

I am having the same issue.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/runtime-error-for-atibtmonexe-when-disconnecting/ef6afb96-2ecf-4ce0-8f88-a7659b82e5a9

I think it is related to AMD Catalyst Software. Everytime I disconnect the AC power cord, it throws this C++ Runtime error.

I am trying it right now (176 MB!) :-O
