Sound card crashing on microphone use.

So basically, I can listen to music on itunes and use sound in any program around, until I began to use my microphone. I can use chat on AIM and Skype, but the second I start a voice chat with someone, my sound crashes until I restart my computer. I've run both self-help tools from the website, and I can't provide you with what sound card I'm using because 1.) I forgot where to search. 2.) When I finally did find it a few times recently, it said no sound card could be found. I know that to be untrue, but how do I go about fixing it?

Answer

Hello Fntaylor,

Please relay the make and model of your PC. Please also relay if the issue only occurs while using  AIM and Skype.

You may also run the Playing Audio troubleshooter in Windows 7 to check for any issues with the volume settings, the sound card, the audio driver or your speakers/headphones.

To do this, please see the link below:

Playing Audio troubleshooter

In addition, you may also verify that the microphone settings have been setup and tested with each program and then check the issue.

Thank you,

Mary
