Windows Media Player displays a black screen when a DVD is played. Windows Media Center no longer plays my recorded TV shows, DVDs or Blu-Ray Discs. Audio but no picture.

I have been having some trouble in the last week with my computer reading DVDs and Blu Ray Discs.  I have searched quite a few forums, but still no joy on fixing this.

I run Windows 7 on my Desktop PC.

My computer used to play Blu Ray Discs and DVDs and Recorded TV shows in PowerDVD, WMP and Windows Media Center. 

Last week that all stopped.  I can only play DVDs and Recorded TV shows (previously recorded in Windows Media Center on POWERDVD 9 Ultimate and not in windows porgrammes.  Blu Ray playback in PowerDVD gives me a Green Screen with audio only.  If I move my mouse over the green screen I can tell that it is at the DVD Main Title screen where I would select Play but If I do I just get Audio and no picture.

I have the latest ATI Radeon HD 8200 drivers and Realtek audiodrivers installed.

1 - I went back to the system install disk and went back to Windows Vista

2 - Dvds play in WMP when No ATI Graphics card driver is installed.  When I then install the latest graphics driver WMP does not play Dvds but PowerDVD does.

3 - I then upgraded to Windows 7

4 -Reinstalled PowerDvd Software and ATI drivers

5 - I can play Dvds and most of the videos on my HDD in POWERDVD but not Blu Ray. (Green Screen Appears - sound but no picture).

6 - WMP and Windows Media Center do not play HDD videos or Blu-Ray Dvds.

 

I have no idea why going back to the beginning WMP and Windows Media Center no longer play Dvds, I though that a complete re-install would have recified this issue.

 

I have a seperate DVD-RW drive and Blu Ray Drive.  Under "Windows Computer"  The DVD drive is displayed but the DVD film title is no longer dispalyed under D:/

 

Any assistance with this problem would be greatfully received.

I have found the solution to my video playback problems

 

1 - I downloaded DECCHECKSetup http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=de1491ac-0ab6-4990-943d-627e6ade9fcb&displaylang=en

     I am running Windows 7 64x and WMP 12 -  this XP version worked fine for me.

2 - Installed it

3 - Ran the scan (Rigth Click and run as Administrator)

4 - Hey Presto - It showed that the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video was not MP10 Compatible. But 2 of the Cyberlink PowerDVD Decoder version were.

5 - I set my prefered decoder to (CYBERLINK VIDEO/SP DECODER POWERDVD 9)

 

6 - Tried my Blu-Ray Disc in PowerDVD9 - IT WORKED

7 - Tried my Recorded TV Files in Windows Media Center - IT WORKED

 

8 - After weeks of trial and error and endless restoring of my computer I am glad to say that his is now sorted.

 

I hope that this helps you with your video problems.

 

I also found that using an OLD ATI Graphics Driver worked well for me.  Using the latest onecontinually seems to cause the above problems but using an older one works fine for blu ray and all other media formats.  Ift will probably be trial and error as to which older version of the driver you need.  AMD even say that if an older driver works you do not necessarily need to upgrade as this can cause problems.
