When I start WMP the window opens immediately but it takes nearly 12 minutes to complete the startup. During most of that time the CPU usage is at 0%. Every other application starts up almost instantly and WMP runs fine once it has finally started up.
The program itself is stored on a SSD drive whilst the music files are on a conventional hard disk and they total 871mb. My system is a quad core i5 processor with 8gb RAM running Windows 7, 64 bit.
I would recommend you to rebuild the Windows Media Player database and verify if the issue is resolved.

To resolve this problem, clear the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Exit Windows Media Player.
2. Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.
3. Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.
Note: You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.
4. Restart Windows Media Player.
Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.
Method 2.
If this does not resolve the problem, clear the Windows Media Player database cache files.
To do this, follow these steps:
1. Exit Windows Media Player.
2. Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.
3. Select the Media Player folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.
4. Restart Windows Media Player.
Method 3.
I would also suggest you to re-register files related to Windows Media Player.
To do this, follow the steps below:
a. Click on start and in the start search bar type cmd, right click on the command prompt icon
in the programs area and then click on run as administrator.
b. at the command prompt type regsvr32 wmp.dll and then press enter.
Type regsvr32 jscript.dll and then press enter
Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll and then press enter
c. Restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.
You may alsotry turning Windows Media Player on or off.
