Message saying "there is not enough memory or disk space to run word" when opening word document or excel

Original Title: No Space?

When I try opening a word document or excel I get a message saying "there is not enough memory or disk space to run word" believe me I have plenty of space.

Hi Jay,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

I’m sorry to know that you are facing issue with free space when launching Microsoft Word document or Excel. In order to provide you with a quick resolution, please reply to these questions:

1.       Does the issue occur only while launching Word document or Excel?

2.       Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

However, I’m glad to provide you with these methods which will help you to fix the issue.

Method 1: I would suggest you to run disk cleanup to reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space.

Delete files using Disk Cleanup

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Delete-files-using-Disk-Cleanup

Method 2: I would suggest you to clear the temp folders and check if it helps, here are the steps:

a.       Click Start, type %temp% in the search box and hit enter.

b.      Press Ctrl key + A, that will select all the contents and delete it.

Once you clear this, follow these steps:

a.       Click Start, click on Computer.

b.      Open C drive, go to Temp folder and delete all the contents and check if it helps.

Method 3: I would also suggest you to scan your computer with Microsoft Safety Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free downloadable security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: While scanning the hard drive if any bad sectors are found, the scanner tries to repair that sector, any data available on that might be lost.

Hope it helps. For any further Windows related assistance, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help.

Dear Mohammad,

It would be helpful if you know what you were talking about.  The user told you it had nothing to

do with disk space.  I had a similar problem with word.  The problem was with file permissions and is

in Excel as well.

You can find the ACTUAL FIX here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2749199

Right click on the file.  Go to properties.  Click unblock.  Apparently, in a recent release, MS Office (at least Word and Excel) is blocking anything that comes from other computers because apparently, their developers are too lazy to test their code and would rather have us run around in circles trying to figure things out instead of fixing the problem on their end where it starts.

To all people who have had this problem.  No, you are not an idiot.  No, your disk is not full (most likely, I mean check that first...when you find 1 TB of free space, try the word fix--worked for me in both instances).

This is what happens when you outsource to cheap coders in other countries who don't know what they're doing.

I would like to submit a bill to MS for QA testing and troubleshooting their problems--I bill at $200/hour--minimum of one hour.  This problem originally took me days to fix as we first had to determine that it wasn't just a problem with the file or my machine--and that wasted my time and the time of the writers and companies I support.  Please tell me where to send my invoice.

This solved my problem.  Easy fix.  Just wish I could go back in time and not waste all that energy I spent trying to explain to the IT guy at my company that I didn't think it was really a space or memory issue.

Can I sign the petition to get your invoice paid?

Hi,

The only reason for this problem to occur is when there is a system conflict or settings that affecting the word from launching. Sometimes it may by cause of computer virus or antivirus and the error message provided is not accurate. That's why troubleshooting the office is the only way to completely fix  the issue.
