Windows 10 install error C1900101-30018

• Disable (preferrably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before attempting the upgrade.
• Restart a few times and try again.
• Disable General USB Devices (example - Smart Card Reader). 
• If you are using a SCSI hard disk, make sure you have drivers available for your storage device on a thumdrive and it is connected. During Windows 10 setup, click the Custom Advanced Option and use the Load Driver command to load the appropriate driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and setup still fails, consider switching to a IDE based hard disk.
• Do a clean boot and try again.
• If you are upgrading using the .ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during setup, if you are connected by LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi, disable both and attempt setup again. 
• If you are updating through Windows Update, when the download reaches 100% disconnect from the Internet LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi and proceed with the installation.
• If that does not work, try using the .ISO file to upgrade if possible.
• If you are connected to a domain, switch to a local account
• If you have any external devices attached to the machine, disconnect them (example, gaming controllers, USB keys, external hard disc, printers, non-essential devices).

  If you are installing Windows 10 using Windows Update, try the following:

  1. Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from the menu.

  2. Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

                             net stop wuauserv

                             net stop cryptSvc

                             net stop bits

                             net stop msiserver

  3. Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

                            ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

                            ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

  4. Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. Typethe following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the ENTER key after you type each command.

                          net start wuauserv

                          net start cryptSvc

                          net start bits

                          net start msiserver

  5. Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it and then restart the computer.

So what happens to all the existing applications when you do the image... they all go away, correct? If that's the case it doesn't seem to be a viable solution.

How i can update with ISO, if it requires to enter serial number??? 

My update also crashed twice with the same error (win 8.1 Pro x64, Lenovo G580 laptop), i  thought "ok, i  will make clean installation with ISO", but no way, i need serial number to install ISO.  So now i cannot get my free windows 10 upgrade in any way, its crashing via windows update, and it requires serial number via ISO. 

Do I have to do all of these things or can they all individually be solutions to the problem?

I thought the upgrade was supposed to be easy now I know why its free, you get what you pay for I suppose.

At several hours per try, this is getting old.  I've tried everything listed above except using an ISO image----I guess that is next.  It hangs every time at 6% through installing features and drivers.   I left it overnight one time----it is definitely hung and not going to recover.  When I restart the computer it restores win 8.1, and usually has an error (system_service_exception, to time) starting windows 8.1.  Other times it boots and then shortly after I log in, the system hangs.

i've renamed the two directories, disconnected the network, disabled the network adaptors, but it does eye same thing every time (4 times now).

and then when I go to try again, it downloads the update again (isn't it still lying around on the machine somewhere?).  And. The final blow is when Win 8.1 starts, it starts windows update which hangs the machine unlessI kill it promptly.  Not a great update experience (this is on a 15 month old Dell all-in-one).  I'm about to give up.  Anything else I can try?

I got something else you may try. I absolutely recommend this method, because this is the way how I got to finally upgrade to Windows 10 without errors:

Glad i didn't attempt this, I was just working out what  Drivers i might have to reinstall an how when  bbrock62 psted that it didn't work for him...

 I am not a super user I have a little knowledge, but all of this is above my pay grade. it seems 2 days after launch at 115 people have managed to  find thsi sight and post a similar failur, god knows how many are out there floundering in the dark
