Windows 10 : Why don't I have permission to open my own files?

Original title: Permissions

Why don't I have permission to open my own files? I am the only user on my computer.

I am now using Windows 10 but I had problems with Windows XP, 7 and 8.1. I think it started with the 64 bit version of Windows. I've got photos I cannot access even though I took them with my camera and put them on my computer.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

Please Share this information to assist you better.

1. Have you logged in to admin account?

2. Is the issue specific with any files/folder or all files on computer?

You might be able to resolve this issue by restoring your ownership of the files and folders.

1. Sign-in as an administrator on your computer.

2. Navigate to the folder where you're having the problem. Right-click and select Properties from the pop-up menu.

3.Under Properties | Security tab, click the Advanced button, then click "Change" owner on the Advanced Security Settings dialog (if you are already the owner, do this step anyway!), and in the resulting dialog enter whatever you want the owner to be

4. Now a new check-box appears labeled "Replace owner on sub-containers and objects"; check it.

5. Also check the box at the bottom "Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object."

6. Make sure under the Permission entries grid that your current account has Full control (if not Edit or Add your account to be listed with full control). Finally hit Apply. This may take a while.

Hope this helps. If you have any further issues, please get back to us and we would be happy to help you.

This reply is bad for many reasons, starting with the first instruction.

How do I sign-in as administrator? I am the OWNER. That status should give me the intrinsic power to do anything I want to do to my property! More than even Microsoft can do.

Also, and pardon my  (and 90% of the rest of the world who are non-experts) ignorance, but HOW does an owner log-in as an administrator? (of which there should only be one, the owner, anyways and shouldn't require a special log-in)

The second thing is Why should an owner go to each file individually? I have hundreds of thousands of files. This method is not helpful , and little bit patronizing.

Why should the owner of a computer have to choose 1 folder at a time to get permission to change it? The owner of a computer should have omnipotent powers, even over Microsoft, when it comes to their files and hardware.

Why this is an issue I am at a loss for words to explain. This is so Machiavellian and a malicious way to treat users. We shouldn't have to "ask" for permission to use our own files on our own computers.

BIG BROTHER is evil. Fix your system. MAKE IT MORE SIMPLE. MAKE IT BASIC. ALL COMPUTER PROGRAMS HAVE OUTPACED HOW FAST USERS CAN ADAPT TO THE CHANGES BEFORE ANOTHER COMES ALONG AND CHANGES WHAT WAS LEARNED SINCE THE LAST "CHANGE".

<Removed> There seems to be no way to get help to get "permission" to open  your own personal file. <Removed>
