Touchpad gestures stop working after sleep in Windows 8.1

My touchpad gestures stop working after the laptop comes out of sleep or hibernate. I no longer have two-finger scroll or any of the swipe gestures. Has anybody else had this problem or found a solution? (Enabling and Disabling the touchpad has no effect, the only solution I've found is to completely reboot). This is abrupt.

I have dell inspiron 14 5000 series (5447). I have the latest drivers and windows 8.1. I just bought it few days back.

Please help.

Thanks

This is a common issue after the 8.1 update.

After you put your laptop to sleep and wake it up , the touch pad seems to stop working.

if this is the issue, if you're facing this issue follow these steps :

1. Check for the latest version of the touch pad driver if it's not up to date then please do update it.

2. If the drivers are updated then , go to the desktop , and once the desktop appears , left click on the desktop  and  then press <ESC> key thrice.

this seems to resolve the issue for synaptic touch-pad for DELL laptops.{maybe for other touch-pads also}

I don't know how this fixes the issue , i would appreciate it if Microsoft Engineers could explain this.

Hope this resolves the issue.

Hi there.

I'm had the same problem since December 2014 (I have an Windows 8 Asus vivotab note 8, also known as Asus M80TA), the only instantly solution was rebooting the tab., I've tried almost everything to solve this permanently, I've even reinstalled the entire pc. That solution seemed to solve the problem - but just for a few weeks... But now I founded what might be the permanent solution. Let me tell you:

When the problem appears, don't reboot the system. Instead, aptly to "Devices Management" (since your touchpad doesn't works, try using a mouse). Then, click on "Human Interface Devices". Hopefully, you will see a warning sign in the "I2C HID". Now open Properties and you will find a "Code 43" error.

Now run the diagnostic tool Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows on the Microsoft Fix it Center (https://support2.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems)

Now all you have to do is running the Microsoft Fix It Center and follow the steps. It solved my problem, I hope it solves yours.

Greetings
