Surface Headphones headband snapped

My surface headphones have been going great for about 1 year now, when all of a sudden the plastic band on top snapped without any warning or signs or previous issue.

My headphones are still within their warranty period and were purchased from the Microsoft Online Store. When trying to lodge an online service request, the only option applicable is physical damage, which this does not count as it's a known issue and was being covered under warranty in Microsoft Retails stores.

Can someone from support assist with processing a claim under warranty.
