I have a missing "HID Compliant Pen" driver and I wish to install it back but how?

Hello, I currently own a Surface Book with a version of Windows 10 1909 x64bit. 

My touch pen has not been working recently and I have thought it would have been a low pen battery problem but I was wrong. 

Below in device manager the "HID Compliant Pen" driver is missing which prevents me from using my active stylus pen. 

So I went to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49497 to freshly install drivers. 

1. I downloaded the latest msi file but that did not work. 

2. Re-downloaded a zip file to install the pen drivers itself through device manager > add legacy > browse > surfacepen.inf and got a error message. 

Other options such as a system restore did not work as well. 

The only option I am thinking about is System Reset but I am worried that it might not solve my issue. 

I really need help and I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for reaching out Microsoft Community.

Here's how you can install the drivers back on your Surface Book.

Step 1 : Unpair the Surface pen from your Surface device first

Step 2 :  Uninstall Marvell Avastar Blluetooth Radio adapter in Device manager

Step 3 :  Restart your device and go to Surface Book Drivers and Firmwares

Step 4 :  Click download and choose the OS build that match with your Surface book's OS build or the closest one available and select the .msi                        file. Since you have updated your Surface device OS to 1909 version, the . msi you'll have to select is the 18362.

Step 5 : Hit Next to proceed with the download, click run and install  the  .msi file then Restart your device.

Step 6 : Re-pair your Surface pen and check in Device Manager if the HID-Compliant Pen driver is already reinstalled.

I followed every step and after 18632 installation it still did not install my pen drivers.

Hi SeongHoon1,

Thanks for keeping me posted and for doing the above mentioned steps.  Is the pen currently paired with your Surface device? Is it showing "connected" in Settings under Devices?  Is the Surface Pen driver shows in Device manager under Bluetooth?

If the pen doesn't show connected in Device settings, the HID-compliant pen driver will not show in Device Manager. Have you tried using a different pen?

Hello,

I remembered unpairing the pen because it didn't work. The battery is still fine. 

On my 2nd surface device it was able to detect my pen and it registered everything perfectly. I checked the drivers in device manager and everything seemed normal and had its own hid pen driver. 

I still can't unpair my pen through my 2nd surface. Pen would not show up on bluetooth devices and I checked on Device Manager but still wasn't able to find it. 

The pen however, is not a surface pen with a click button on the end. It is a genuine active pen with 1024 pressure sensitivty which requires no bluetooth pairing. It just needs the drivers in order to work.

I noticed that my 1st surface is missing few other more HID drivers compared to my second surface. 

I am very worried about my device, What is my next step?

*Update* 

I managed to get the pen working again after uninstalling "Intel(R) Precise Touch Device" under HID in Device Manager. After uninstalling that driver I restarted my surface and finally got my pen and mulit-touch input back. 

Anyway, Thank you for helping and I hope this resolves for many other users who experience the same problem.
