Announcing Insider build 16.0.6568.2036 for Office 2016 on Windows desktop

Hi Insiders,

We have a new update for you, build 16.0.6568.2036.

To get the update, click File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.

This update fixes two significant POP3 issues in Outlook 2016:

  1. After Outlook downloads email, all email messages on the server are deleted from the Inbox.

  2. Email messages are downloaded multiple times from Outlook, causing duplicate items.

In addition, we've fixed an issue where Office apps would crash if you attempted to convert a file to PDF using Adobe Acrobat PDFMaker.

Special thanks to Insider Mrs. Richardson for being the first to bring the POP3 issues to our attention!

Hi,

after upgrading Office 2016 to build 16.0.6568.2036, I discovered the following Outlook issue:

With Exchange cache activated and set to any time period shorter than "all", the link used to load the mails beyond the cache period is no longer available, i.e. there is no way to load these emails from the server.

The only workaround I found was setting the cache period to "all".

I was able to verify this behaviour on a second PC - link present before update to  16.0.6568.2036, link disappeared after the update.

Hi Martin,

We've confirmed the bug and submitted it for a fix.

Here are a couple of workarounds in the meantime, one of which you've already identified:

Workaround #1

  1. Click File > Account Settings > Account Settings > Change.
  2. In the Account Settings dialog box, move the Mail to keep offline slider all the way to the right

Workaround #2

  1. On the Ribbon, click Folder > View on Server

When I learn more about the timeline for the fix, I'll let you know.

Thanks very much for bringing this to our attention.

When our company was initially made aware of the issue with POP accounts downloading multiple times, we began disabling updates and reverting back to previous versions. Today, I had an employee complain of this issue so I logged on to disable and revert, but found she was already on the new version (16.0.6568.2036). I am going to go ahead and disable and revert to a previous build now, but wanted to make you aware that we are still experiencing this issue on our end.

I updated my Outlook 2016 today and went from version XX.2025 to 1600.6741.2021 (not 16.0.6568.2036) Does this make sense?

Thanks, Jonas. Was she complaining of the duplicate emails issue or the server deletion issue? (We heard reports about both, but upon investigation, there were other things happening, that were unrelated to the bug fix.)
