Powerpoint 2016 SVG fails to import correctly

I am using a very recent build of Powerpoint 2016, version 1161 that now is supposed to support importing svg files. However, when I attempt to import svg files I find elements are not imported correctly.

SVG supports a wide variety of features.  Some of them are not yet supported in PPT's SVG import feature.

I'd expect to see the SVG import improve over time as MS adds to its capabilities.

Examples of SVG files that don't correctly import will help the developers, so if you can supply a link to the SVG file in question, one of us will make sure it gets to the right people at MS.

I also have the issue with SVG in Powerpoint 2016.

When I follow the help topic: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Insert-SVG-images-in-Microsoft-Office-69f29d39-194a-4072-8c35-dbe5e7ea528c

I don't even see SVG files in a directory. Of course, when I switch to "All Files" they are there but they aren't imported. So - does powerpoint 2016 really support (at least basic) svg images, or is this the article mentioned just not true?

If you have a subscription version of PowerPoint/Office 2016 and you allow it to update itself, it should be able to insert SVG files.  If you have a non-subscription version, these don't get updated with new features, so you may not have SVG import ability.

Choose FILE | ACCOUNT

If it doesn't say "Subscription Product" directly under the Office logo, it's not a subscription version and won't get updated to new features like SVG insert.

Hi, thanks for the hint.

My PPT is a subscription product (at my company) with updates turned on, but for some reason I have a version 1609 (Build 7369.2102), First Release for Deferred Channel (whatever that means) and when I hit "Update Now" it says everything is up to date.

I can see that svg support was added in 1611, so clearly I will not have it unless I manage to update it somehow. Any ideas on what might be the issue?

I'm pretty sure that some of the company/enterprise subscription products follow different rules than the consumer-level products.  I think it's up to the company IT staff to test and release new versions as they wish.  I don't believe that an enterprise version gets the same updates as we individual users do.

So,

My PowerPoint got updated to build 1701 (Build 7766.2071), I have a PRO PLUS version. Still - no SVG support (not on Win 7 nor on Win 10). This is just OUTRAGEOUS. You buy the most expensive, full-featured Office subscription just to get screwed on a feature that should have been there since 1999 which is when SVG became a widely accepted standard. What is wrong with you MS? still using I.E. 5 to browse the internet? Didn't you realise it's been 18 years now that SVG is on the scene?

>> I have a PRO PLUS version

That would be the problem, then.  Pro Plus isn't a subscription version of Office.

When you buy the non-subscription version of Office, the Office feature set is pretty much locked down.  Updates will fix bugs and security issues but will not add new features.  On the other hand, you get a higher level of stability and you don't need to let Office talk to the home office over the internet every so often in order to keep working.

The subscription version can receive the usual bug fix/security updates and can also receive new features (SVG support, for example) via updates.

Well... Microsoft differs here:

But there probably is a cunning explanation to that also...

I have version 1707 : "no update available". Same as Mr Milczek, I don't see SVG files in directory + svg import fail when selecting "all files".
