Xbox Live Compromise?

There isn't a Xbox Live general discussion. But I have heard a rumor that there has been a small compromise in security here. Anyone else know about this?

I read there was something going on over a month ago, that was posted in the Support section.  But that was awhile back.  And I've read several threads today, of people getting e-mails in the "Communicating With Other Players" in the Support section.  They were supposed to be from Xbox Staff and asking for passwords and such.  Someones always doing that and no matter how much we warn others, someone will fall for it and get phished.

The only compromise being done is via the User. People still don't know how to keep their account information safe and secure on their end. They don't seem to think anyone would try to scam them when they offer them a higher rank in a game or free ms points or to join a modded room.

Our information is safe and secure on MS's end. All we have to do is keep it the same way on our end.

Ever since Sony got hacked, there has been individual rumors floating around about everyone else being hacked too. I don't pay any attention to it.

Sword Style nice G. If your worried about your personal info being stolen just change your password. I've done so sometime ago after the Epic forums were hacked.

The title is misleading, needs a D at the end of compromise. Also people are using it weird, you guys make it sound like MS came to an understanding with hackers or something. Compromised and compromise have two different meanings. Sorry to nitpick but it bugged me.

I will. I have been an XBL member since 11/2007 and not once have I had any issues with anyone 'hacking' my account.

I used to say the same about Sony. Look where that got people. Considering they couldn't get their hardware, or even their current forum, right I don't really have any faith in Microsoft either.

Better to be safe than sorry. Change your passwords on a regular basis. Never use the same information on other websites, especially the lesser secure ones, like Facebook, etc. Ignore/report any emails or PMs from anyone claiming to be staff and asking for details. If they were staff they would already know them before contacting you. Be careful of sites you enter details into. Some sites are fake versions setup to fool you into giving your account details away.

Trust in the digital age is naive. Nobody should trust any company as no company is bulletproof. Security will always be a step behind the people that know what they are doing. It may be easy to nab the throngs of wannabes but it only takes one serious hacker to say, "I told you so." Hotmail acct's are hacked often and often without user input. Hotmail is an MS property.

What it comes down to is simply this; be smart, trust no one.....and you'll be relatively safe. ;p

BTW, Facebook isn't less secure. They have, I believe, changed over to secure servers and have been that way for a good number of months at this point. All info passed over the network should be using the https protocol.

The users are usually the weakest links.

It's our responsibilities not to click on suspicious links, give out our personal information freely, download any program that claims it give u an edge in a particular game, etc ...
