Portal 2 Sound Glitch

When my son plays Portal 2 on his account (not a gold membership) he cannot hear Wheatley talk at certain points when he should be talking, and also he doesn't appear to interact with certain elements in the environment. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? It didn't do it when I played through on my own account. Please help!

What items is he unable to interact with? It sounds like there may be an issue with his save file, in which he case he might want to try starting a new file, to see if the issue persists then.
