Gamertags...

Yeah I don't know.  When making a new tag, a bunch of names I wanted weren't visible when I searched for them, but I wasn't allowed to register the name.  Makes me wonder if they were users that ended up getting banned.

I'm not even sure if the "deleting old tags" things helped.  I haven't logged onto my first tag (from when Halo 2 just came out) in years (the email and password combo is long forgotten) but it was never deleted.

May be a Zune tag.

Aitch, let me start by saying I love you and we don't play Xbox together nearly enough as we should be!

Second, like the person above me said, it could be taken as a Zune tag. It also could be a Games For Windows live ID.

[/quote]If it's a "GFWL" or "Zune" tag it will still show up as a used tag.  I think the problem is spacing in the words. If I wanted to change my name to "TripleAitch" (no spaces), or "Man Handler" (with a space), I couldn't use them because you already have them in a different configuration.

I heard they stopped releasing them because people were selling them on ebay.  

Triple...why not change the spelling a little.  I did in "chicken", to be able to use mine.

It's a 3 letter tag. Well, back to the drawing boards... And late nights are best for me drew.

I wasn't even aware that MS was deleting old Xbox gamertags, are they even allowed to do that?

MS started deleting old GTs late last year or early this year.  It was posted in Maj. Nelson's blog. 

@Triple...spell the letters...A Bee Cee or something like that.

I think they may have stopped releasing old tags because people were taking them to sell on.

As a side note, a Games for Windows Live account will show up on xbox.com just as one used on a 360 does.
