With the connection test I get a message that says

There’s a problem with your connection. Select more info for a description of the problem and how you can fix it

When I do the trouble shooting on the xbox I get

Test failed

Turn your router or modem off and back on, then wait 30 seconds

I’ve done this over and over again in different orders

Manually – defined IP address

I did put an IP in when doing another troubleshoot but now when automatic is on it starts with 169

Wired network

Works but not on my older xbox

DHCP and MAC filtering

One troubleshoot told me to manually type my MAC address in which deleted all the other MAC addresses which made my PC unable to connect wirelessly and I looked at the online manual for the router and it doesn’t say where the DHCP settings are

I live in the UK

The router is NETGEAR

Connection type is wireless and wired

Hi,

We need the exact model of Netgear, what type of wireless adapter you are using (white/black/internal) and what wireless security your using on the router, WEP/WPA/WPA2 (AES or TKIP)

This happened to me too.  I was able to connect after I changed my wireless setting from WPA (TKIP) to WPA2 (AES).  Actually I was able to set it on auto which will detect both WPA and WPA2 but I have a dlink, I don't know if that option is available for you or if you even have the same setting issue but it would appear to be the case.

the model is WNR2000

i have 2 of the new 250GB xboxs with internal wireless and 1 old 60GB wired xbox that can't connect using a Ethernet cable

i have a WPA-PSK [TKIP] security setting on the router

but the other thing i forgot to mention is that i've tried connecting with other unsecured networks and even with my grand parents router and still the same thing

So two Xboxes one wired one wireless and both fail on ip address is that right? If it doesn't fail on ip address or network failed please state the error message when you run the Xbox live connection test.

Here is what I'd try:-

  • Go into the network settings on both Xboxes and run the factory defaults option, change nothing else on the Xbox after this
  • Whilst wired to your router on your PC change your router wireless settings to WPA2-PSK (AES)
  • Ensure your SSID (network name) is one single word (no spaces)
  • Ensure UPnP is enabled on the router (I believe its off by default on that model)
  • Try connecting using the wired Xbox
  • Try searching for your wireless network again and try to connect

cool

well i did most of what you said, UPnP was already on

i tried the WPA2-PSK (AES) setting the pc lost wireless connection but the xbox worked so i tried the (WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK) setting and so far it's all working, well what i've checked any way, i still have to see if my wired is working but the 2 wireless work

so just have to hope that it stay's like this

THANKS
